The story behind Oxid Project

Joao Lopes was born in 1986, in Lisbon, Portugal. At ten years old, he began experimenting with music production, manipulating sounds from various acoustic and electronic music genres. His brother, Tobel Lopes, greatly influenced the acoustical and live feeling early in his production endeavors. Before delving in electronic dance music, Joao was the drummer of two Hard-Rock Portuguese bands, Furball and Milkshop. His drumming instincts inclined him to produce heavy and fast rhythms, which mostly comprised sounds from the Drum 'n' Bass genre. The rhythms and melodies that he initially created expressed an exceedingly strong IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) accent. However, live acoustical sounds and Drum n Bass developed a learning foundation for Joao, later leading him to a truer calling, Trance music. After merging pure, melodic, dream, and Balearic vibes together with touching melodies and thick rhythms, he soon defined his own style within the Trance music genre; and his newly acquired Trance sounds became a prominent feature in his later recordings.

In 1996, Joao began producing his audio tracks on a Korg N-364 workstation and a BOSS beat box. In 1998, he began using the computer as his production platform--combining Cakewalk and Re-Birth together with samplers and DSPs (Digital Signal Processors). Finally, in 2001, Joao experienced the full potential of a virtual studio after adopting Nuendo and Reason; the duo soon became the most serious and significant fundaments in expressing his thoughts and feelings musically.

Since then, he has been working earnestly in the studio producing awestricken songs and remixes with innovative Trance & Techno sounds. After having a successful accomplishment reaching his musical niche, his 2004 prize song, Sun Breath topped several online community charts; and due to its big success among worldwide listeners, has marked him the epitome of the new future electronic dance music hero. Under his alias Oxid Project, Joao has become one of the most promising new acts in Trance music today.
