as i (mitch) dwell on all the Lord has done for me i cannot help but be i awe of how glorious He is. i look at how i have lived my life before i was a christian and how even now i struggle to live a life worthy of the calling i have received. i continue to question if what i am doing is the right thing or if God is really telling me to do something else. i wonder if i am even in the right mindset, giving Him all the glory instead of myself.
all that i can come to is this; what better time than now? all we really have is the moment in which we are living in. we can't say we have the future because it is not in our hands and we can't say that we have the past because it has already left us. all we have is right now. how we choose to live, what we choose to say and what we live to do, it's all right now.
at this very moment i am at work (or at least getting ready to get off work waiting for my relief :) ) and for some reason i feel an incredible excitement to go and do something for God. maybe spend some time with him, have fellowship with others or just be still and know. but what i have is right now, and right now i praise God for all the blessings He has given to me, all the hardships that He has given me, and for everything that is to come that i don't have yet. i want to give God all the glory and none to myself.
what better time than now? to live a life worthy of the calling that you have received from Him.
what better time than now? to gaze upon His face in awe and wonder.
what better time than now? to live, to pray, to read, to laugh, to dance, to care.
what better time than now? to tell someone you love them, to pray for them knowing that you will be answered.
what better time than now? right now.

So I know it's been a really long time since I've said anything here... But no one reads these correct? HAH! So, a little update on the whole Mitchell Hines & Katherine E. Kula thing...
You see we've been getting a little sick of typing all of that in for various things (e-mail, this account, etc.) and so we decided we needed a band name. Well the verdict is in and we believe that God led us to an amazing band name! First I will explain what it is and then tell you what we came up with.
First of all, Katie has had a verse that has always spoken to her when she needed some help and guidance. Isaiah 42:3 which states "A bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice" (NRSV New Oxford Annotated Bible 2001 p1035 HB). So Katie brought up the idea of naming our band "Reeds."
She looked up the definition of reed in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary. It says these things:
1 a : any of various tall grasses with slender often prominently jointed stems that grow especially in wet areas b : a stem of a reed c : a person or thing too weak to rely on : one easily swayed or overcome.
We realized that as Christians we need to be jointed at our stems or jointed as one body in Christ. We also saw that just as reeds grow in especially wet areas (namely water) as Christians we need to be rooted in Christ which is the living water. Also, as humans we are really too weak to rely on and are easily swayed and/or overcome by temptation, the devil and other influences. Therefore, since we are only human, we decided to call ourselves
--- onlyreeds ---
Our band name didn't just come with an amazing meaning and message with it, but we also met two amazing people who joined our band: Hanna Van Hemert and Brett Larson! Brett will be playing drums and Hanna will be playing piano and adding another harmony part. I am extremely pumped!
We currently are getting prepared to start our first album as well as revamping the old CD for a new flavor and quite honestly more dynamics! Please pray for us as we are seeking the Lord's direction and plan for this band and look for more updates soon as we will be transferring (hopefully) this purevolume account to our new one very soon along with our myspace page! Our new e-mail is now onlyreeds@gmail.com.
Thank you to all who have been praying for us and supporting us all the way!
In Christ,
onlyreeds

June 6
I thought maybe the title would catch your attention... I doubt anyone reads these, but that's okay!! I can use this as my little rant to God :)! Well, it's now still the first full week of June; I'm still in classes at UNI and Katie is hard at work back home and preparing herself to head to Rwanda on the 15th of July.
God has been working so much in my life I can't even begin to explain it. Last month wasn't a very good month but now I'm getting a fire that I can't even explain! I have begun to read Ecclesiastes which when you first read through it it seems like someone is depressed about life, but when you really get into it you see that it contains so many life lessons that we all need to learn, even non-Christians! Each day I see "you must go through the valley to stand upon the mountain of God" reigning true in my life.
Recent updates in case someone really is reading this :)
1) Our whole month of June is pretty much booked up! If you live close to where we're playing at please stop and say hi!! We would love to see you! Check out our concert dates on this site.
2) We have 9, yes I said 9, songs written for our next CD!!!!! Here's your job... If you know of anyone (including yourself) who plays bass, electric guitar, drums/djembe and/or piano let us know! We are looking to get a full band at least on the CD if not to come tour with us after the second CD is released. We plan on recording next fall starting promptly in September so hopefully everything will work out. We currently do have people that are a really big possibility for bass (Tim Worthington) and electric guitar (Justin Hines) but since they do live far away it might not work out (although we are totally praying that it does). Drums and piano are the major ones we are looking for but as the saying goes "you can't go wrong with more than you need..." Okay so I made that up, but in this case it does work because we can use all the help we can get for new ideas and possibly full-time band members :).
3) Always gotta have three updates :). We got our first concert in our Fall tour. October 14th we will be playing a concert in Cedar Rapids, IA at a church. We will do special music in the morning for worship and then play an evening/night concert. More details coming soon!
Well, that's all I have folks! Thank you all so much again for your prayers! We ask that you continue to pray for Katie as she is preparing her heart to go to Rwanda. Also pray for those who are travelling with her. Pray for me as I continue to finish classes and finally finish my solo album (fingers crossed) and that God will use me in the classes that I am in and that I keep the fire that is buring deep within my soul. If there are any prayers, the Holy Spirit has already said them for me because my mind is now elsewhere, deep in thought :)! Thank you again so much!
In Him,
Mitchell Hines & Katherine E. Kula

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Everyone who attended the concert, everyone who has helped us with the CD, and everyone who has passed by saying hello, thank you!! The concert Thursday night was so amazing and I can't help but thank God for all of the blessings He has given to us! We have raised almost $300 for Katie to go to Rwanda!! So a huge thanks!! A REALLY huge thanks goes to Megan Worthington who headed the CD sales table and worked her tail off all night and really didn't get to enjoy herself!! If anyone sees her walking around tell her thanks! Again, thank you to everyone for all of your love and support and keep us in your prayers!
We are continually looking for venues to share God's music with other people so if any of you have ideas or know of places we could play at you can e-mail us at mitchellhines.katherineekula@gmail.com. We will give you/them all the details of why we are touring, what our music is about and where all the proceeds go towards. Thanks again and God bless!!!
In His precious name,
Mitchell Hines & Katherine E. Kula
