OK Cadet grew up with very similar musical backgrounds, drawing influences from a variety of music that dates back since they can remember. All three members come from strong musical backgrounds. Music has played an important role in each of their lives. Brothers Nathan and Kris grew up together in a military family spending a lot of their childhood moving around, whether it was familiar Ontario, or a two year stint in California during the Gulf War. Over the years one thing remained constant their passion for music. In the beginning they would listen to their dads old rock records for inspiration; everything from Deep Purple to The Zep, from BTO to CCR. As time went on they found their own tastes in music. It was then that they gained an appreciation for bands that defined their own genre. Music with talented musicians, music that took that extra step to separate itself from the pack. The way they understood music and dreamed of entertaining, you could tell that music was in their blood from day one. It was in the stars that someday, they would want to begin making their own. At their respective age 9 and 12 Kristian and Nathan began. Little did they know that across the continent far away from home was another boy with a similar musical upbringing, someone who would one day be the final equation in the formula for the three piece that is OK Cadet.
Mike Genereux, born and raised in Edmonton, grew up listening to his fathers old rock favorites eventually finding his own taste for music. He remembers having his uncle over to rock it out with his dad and some friends until all hours of the morning, playing and singing old cover tunes while the rest of the family sat and enjoyed the sweet sounds. Whether it was the family jams or sitting back during long car rides and taking in all of the music, Mike decided to pick up guitar and has never looked back.

Throughout their teenage years, they played around with many different musicians and took on a few serious projects with others. After Nathans band, Spelling Thomas, called it quits in early 2003 and with Kristian waiting in the wings after departing from his band, Hope Unknown, over a year before, the two decided to collaborate their efforts and find a guitarist for their dream three piece. Tired of going nowhere, and jamming funk, rock, jazz, or whatever other variety of tunes in their basement as a drum and bass duo, the two advertised for a guitar player. For many months the boys jammed with a few different talented players, but could not find the dedication or chemistry for it to go anywhere. Finally, in early 2005 Kris was introduced to Mike after hearing of his talents and dedication from some mutual friends. Kristian invited Mike to audition and feel things out. From that first meeting playing as the three piece, there was undeniable chemistry. Something all three young men were searching for fell right into their laps. The brothers describe it as if all three of them had picked up theyre instruments together as kids, and had been playing together ever since. As if Mike had always been there.


OK Cadet. A power trio that combines intricate heavy guitar, articulate aggressive drumming, energetic noteful bass, powerful melodic vocals and wide ranging three part harmonies. Since the birth of the Edmonton three piece, their direction and dedication is unmatched. Whether playing in front of a packed venue or laying down tracks in the studio, their unmistakingly original sound comes too natural. Bonded by a love for music and performance these three players are strong and looking to take flight.
