In a way, it seems almost natural that Chicago native Robert Bock recently found himself gaping at the remnants of an abandoned New England opera house. A project now years in the making, Of The Opera started as the creative output for Bock until one Chicago winter found him partnered up with Matthew Tenney and a revolving cast to fill out the rhythm section. Together, the two invested their efforts heavily in Chicago's music scene, frequenting the city’s renown venue, Metro, and voyaging down to 2007’s SXSW in Austin to play their third show to a panel of industry mainstays. In the summer of 2008, life found Bock hulled up on the east coast, dividing his time between Cape Cod and Boston. After a brief regrouping with Bock in Chicago, Tenney relocated to Brooklyn to begin laying the foundation for the duo’s impending relaunch. Shortly thereafter, Bock packed everything up and resigned to Boston, where he met Ian Buchholz, the first sign of stability behind the drums since Of The Opera took shape in early 2007.

Now more than ever, Of The Opera are eager and ready to dip their feet into the tepid waters of today’s music industry. Drawing frequent comparisons to Depeche Mode, The Postal Service, The Faint, and VHS or Beta barely even scratches the surface of the sounds being honed in the wake of their Boston residency.
