Nicolas Danglade created Nicholson during the nineties, the golden age of baggy pop, shoegazzing, Acid Jazz and of the advent of electronic music and hip-hop. During this period, the boundaries between musical styles exploded. Nicolas is joined in the year 2000 by Germain Courtot.. Nicholson are musicians and music passionates : rock, dark blues, mersey beat, sweet or improbable funk, electronic music, pop music, chanson franaise, movie scores, all of this is mixed here.
Nicolas and Germain took their time to construct a musical universe centered around the holy triptych of pop music : melodies, rythms and harmonies.
Moderne, their first record , was released in 2006 and received a very positive feedback. The reviews are praising the bands abi lity to conceal quality lyrics and music, french traditional songwriting and english songcraft. Gilles Verlant, official Serge Gainsbourg biographer, praised the album to the skies.
2007 : after touring, the duo writes 10 new songs which will constitute their new record : Les Rastas et les Punks .
There is no reggae or punk on this release. The title is an hommage to the imprint leaved by those two styles of the end of tne 70s on pop-music.
From the rastas, Nicholson borrows the spirit of experience, the love of intrumental songs and sonic landscapes. From the punks, the do-it-yourself and the innovative spirit. The band home-recorded their album, played all the instruments (vintage synths, fender rhodes, bass, guitars, tape echos) and mixed the album themselves.
In terms of musical style, even if the band is far from reggae grooves and distorted guitars, nicholson always mixes subtility and efficiency, somewhere between Etienne Dahos french pop, Damon Albarn and Air. The duo claims the legacy of french artists who always wanted to mix french language and luxurious arrangements, and its on this particular point that Nicholson can be compared to Serge Gainsbourg. As the band decided to record and mix their album themselves, they can also be compared to producers as Damon Albarn, Benjamin Biolay and Etienne Daho.
With twenty songs written between 2005 and 2007, Nicholson decided to gather all their songs on a new album, French Flair .
The album will be digitally released in january 2008.
In French flair , Nicholson are confirming their taste for cinematic ambiences, somewhere between Ennio Morricone, Air or Sebastien schuller.

Magic
There is, in these lyrics, some true thickness, some subtle poetry, subversive enough, with metaphores and efficient musicality.
