LA up-and-comers Sad Robot beg us to think twice about how we really benefit from the 9-5 grind in their new video for "God Damn The Man," which we're premiering here today.
"If you had all the money you could ever spend… What would you be doing," asks vocalist Katherine Pawlak. "If you compare that to how your days are really being spent, you have to ask: are we really living?"
Taking serious cues from TV sitcoms like NBC's The Office, the video tells the story of an "average Jane, 9-5 button pusher who is pushed to the edge by her mundane corporate routine," as Pawlak puts it. What ensues is some water cooler drama for the record books. Banding together in an act of rebellion, the office erupts into a full-out dance party before teaching their heartless supervisor a thing or two about payback.
"Money irrevocably changed how the vast sum of human existence has and will be spent. By giving it the bulk of our time, we have essentially assigned it as the purpose of our lives," Pawlak continues. "Would that first man to conceive of it have followed through in its creation had he known the effect it would have? If so, then we say, God damn the man."
And an added bonus for all you Sons of Anarchy's Kristen Renton (Ima!).
Enjoy the video's exclusive premiere above and get ready for the band's live EP to drop exclusively on Spotify this April. Not a Spotify user? No worries—they plan to release an EP loaded with new material shortly after!
