may not be the kind of band who can easily fall into one specific genre, but the title-track off their luminous new album, Orange
, didn't have any trouble falling into categories.
"'Orange' was the working title for this song from the very beginning," says guitarist Sam Trapkin
. "It was one of those color association kind of things, where it just felt like orange. Then it became the idea for the record. Kind of like how you'd name a record if you were in kindergarten."
Integrating gritty guitar riffs, static-laced vocal parts, sporadic percussion and punchy keys, this is a track that rings reminiscent of garage rock and punk, indie and lo-fi. It shines in its ability to remain rough-around-the-edges while never losing the underlying brightness its title suggests, and it will certainly leave you coming back for a few more spins.
