A Tribute to Alkaline Triodropped today on Pacific Ridge Records, and three PureVolume artists you know and love contributed to it. We took a minute to ask My Arcadia, Floral Terrace and The Material what their three favorite tunes by the Trio are:
--My Arcadia--
"Maybe I'll Catch Fire": The album version and the acoustic version are phenomenal. We decided to combine elements of both in our rendition of this song. -Alex Cahill, guitarist
"My Friend Peter": Such an honest song that is easy to relate to growing up. -Jacqui Sandell, vocalist
"Private Eye": I spent a great deal of my childhood singing every word to this song, driving around aimlessly in the backseat of a car with my best friends. -Chris Ragone, bassist
--Floral Terrace--
"Sadie": Similar to "This Could Be Love," I've always dug these gory subjects backed by a big pop-rock sound. It's ironic and wonderful. -John Damiano, drummer
"Time to Waste": Having already been an Alkaline Trio fan, I bought Crimson, this song came on as the opening track, and I knew these guys were gonna be one of my favorite bands for years to come. -Oneil Rodriguez, guitarist
"This Could Be Love": This song took us by surprise because its title hinted toward maybe being a ballad or something. When the lead riff kicks in, it's anything but! Catchy, solid, and just epic. When we found out it was available for the compilation, we knew we had to run with it. -Damiano and Rodriguez
--The Material--
"Cooking Wine": This was the first song I ever heard from Alkaline Trio. I was immediately taken in by the lyrics -- especially the epic line "You're fucking' beautiful" -- and I instantly became a fan. Alkaline Trio was a big part of the soundtrack of my high school existence and it all started with this song. -Jon Moreaux, guitarist
"Madam Me”: Maybe I'll Catch Fire is my favorite record from Alkaline Trio. Right from the opening riff, "Madam Me" hooked me. The energy is solid and the lyrics are honest; the whole song feels authentic. -Jon Moreaux, guitarist
"Bleeder": It’s just one of those songs that you can play over and over and it only gets better. We jumped at the chance to cover this song for A Tribute to Alkaline Trio because we knew we could make it our own. We also knew that Colleen (our singer) would bring it to the next level and she totally nailed it. It's a running theme in why I love Alkaline Trio, but once again the lyrics in this song are fantastic. Nobody writes lyrics like Skiba, which is what has always set Alkaline Trio apart for me. -Jon Moreaux, guitarist
