The Word Alive's new song, "Belong," digs into a concept we're all more than familiar with — that undeniable need to fit in. "Let's face it, every single person at one point or another in their life has had that longing to belong. Whether it was to feel welcome in their circle of friends, their family, a sports team, at school — we've all been there. I wanted to write a song that anyone could relate to," says frontman Tyler "Telle" Smith. Relatability isn't the only thing this song has going for it, though. TWA have crafted a jam that hits on all the major elements of metal, while being careful not to skimp on melody. Here, not only will you find driving guitar riffs, smashing percussion, hardcore breakdowns and bone-shattering vocals, but you'll also find a chorus that's laden with hooks, vocals that drip with feeling, and a newfound hue of optimism that radiates through the whole effort. As Smith told us,
"This album as a whole was meant to be something that so many of our fans old and new, could attach real life feelings to. I've gone through a lot in my life — just as most have by 25. I want to write songs, for the most part, that people can find meaning within. Our last record [2010's 'Deceiver'] was more negative and angry. I still have some things that really get to me and piss me off, but I've also discovered a lot of happiness in my life the last two years. I wanted to try to write a lot more optimistically, and a lot more passionately, about progressing in life. Tony [Pizzuti] wrote this song and it just fit perfectly with the lyrics I had envisioned for this concept."
"Belong" comes off TWA's new album, Life Cycles, which drops tomorrow [July 3] via Fearless Records. Enjoy the song's premiere right now, and be sure to grab the full effort tomorrow.
