When
Silverstein first announced the concept of their new album,
Short Songs, our initial reaction was this: "wow, how cool!" You see, this album, which drops today via
Hopeless Records, is not your typical release -- it's an homage to the bands Silverstein grew up admiring, the scene they grew to love, and the aesthetics that inspired them to make music of their own. You may remember
this video which came out back in October, where the band explained the origins of a short song [bred from the DIY and hardcore scene, and consisting of 90 seconds or less], and their own hopes to create an album that not only highlighted their own originals, but the covers of those bands who fostered the genre. The finished product is an incredible
22 track affair, and we couldn't think of a better way to celebrate it than to give a song away to you. Granted, "World on Fire" totals 1:25, but it's a perfect tribute to the mixing of both hardcore and punk influences, and we know you're going to love it. Give it a spin, and let us know if these "short songs" are something you'd like to see more of in today's scene.
