New Jersey's Trophy Scars
have always had ambitious visions for their albums, and Holy Vacants
may be the most bold yet. For their fourth album, the quartet blends mythology, ancient religion and consipacy theory revolving around the Nephilitic (born from a human/angel union) gene. The album follows two lovers who have made two discoveries: that the blood of angels contains the fountain of youth, and the formula for Qeres — an ancient Egyptian perfume that's supposedly the only substance that can kill angels and Nephilites. With this knowledge and a supply of Qere, they go on a killing spree, and you'll have to listen to the album to find out what happens next. As out there as the concept may be, the songs on this album are intricate, precise, and have just enough of that theatrical flare without any of the cheese. Today, we are excited to premiere "Gutted," the latest single off Holy Vacants
. Stream it above. "'Gutted' is a track undoubtedly influenced by the Animals' 'House of the Rising Sun' and past blues incarnations of the 17th Century folk ballad," vocalist Jerry Jones admits. "However, in our version, the 'house' is not a brothel but a vessel in which the ghosts of an angel murdering husband-and-wife couple reside. A family of eight moves in. Hell ensues. Enjoy.
