Under the moniker "Ray & RemoraNous Non Plus's Dan Crane teamed up with vocalist Amanda Walker to put an electro-pop twist on indie pioneers, and the result is 1994. What started off as a playful cover of Superchunk's "Like a Fool" has become a six-song collection of influential indie gems from that lauded year. We are excited to premiere the duo's first offering, a cover of Pavement's "Gold Soundz." Listen to the PureVolume exclusive stream above.

"We started off our 1994 project (not yet knowing we’d be doing a whole EP of songs from 1994) by covering Superchunk's “Like a Fool,”" Crane admits. "Once we decided to explore that year, it was pretty obvious we had to do a Pavement song, as we are both massive Pavement fans, and they are such an emblematic band of that period. So the second song we chose to work on was "Gold Soundz” from Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. Both Remora and I just love that song - it’s both a weirdly nostalgic / melancholic song blended with a kind of joyous celebration. Also, it wasn’t until a couple of weeks after we got the track started that we realized that the opening lyric, “Go back to those gold sounds,” so perfectly described what we were in the process of doing!"

1994 is set for a May 6 release via Aeronaut Records and includes covers of Superchunk, Pavement, Weezer, Guided by Voices, Sebadoh and Dinosaur Jr.
