New York City has a rich history of producing of art rock artists whose vision transcends music. Grey Gersten is one of those. His new album, Naked Light, picks up where his Eternal Lips EP left off. Though the EP featured appearances by Sharon Van Etten and Kyp Malone from TV on the Radio, this time Gersten went at it alone. The result is a complete work with evocative lyrics and music that is bold and experimental. In honor of Naked Light's release, Gersten will be performing songs from the record, create ambient works that integrate live city sounds from sundown to sunrise. If you aren't tired and feeling ambitious, this will take place at 537 Broadway #2 in downtown Manhattan.
“I didn’t think about what’s cool or what anyone would think," he says of the album. I just focused on being emotionally present. The real impact of music comes from feelings. If you suspend self judgement, you create the opportunity for something universal to resound.”
Grey Gersten's Naked Light is out on June 9.
