"Gothic" and "Hip Hop" aren't normally two words you would see together, but BLKHRTS are trying to change that. The Denver-bred rap outfit prefer to flow over samples taken from the likes of Joy Division and Eraserhead, to create unconventional hip hop with punk ethos at its core (think Death Grips meets the Cure). Today, we're excited to premiere the crew's latest single, "Coathangers," which, (not) coincidentally features a sample of the Coathangers' "Hurricane." Stream the aggressive track above.
"Foe actually showed me that song after a mutual, well-respected friend recommended them to him," producer Yonnas Abraham explains. "The sheer ferocity and abandon of the song was remarkable. A lot of people scream they don't give a fuck while wreaking of effort. The Coathangers really do sound like they don't give a fuck, more so than really anyone I've ever heard on record. That whole song sounds like it's perpetually about to fly off the rails at any moment."
"Coathangers" is off BLKHRTS debut EP, Dead Drops
, which is slated for a May 5 release and can be pre-ordered right here.
