After the 2010 disbandment of progressive hardcore band The Fall of Troy, former frontman Thomas Erak wasted no time reasserting his creative energy into a new project. With the help of friend and guitarist Jake Carden, the pair devised a new band, and Just Like Vinyl was established. Don't expect a cookie-cutter replica of TFOT, though. On their forthcoming new album, Black Mass, the band play tribute to a diverse set of genres, creating a sound that fuses hard rock and hints of metal with aggressive instrumentation and melodic undertones.
The premiere of album track "Walk You Home," featuring Twin Atlantic frontman Sam McTrusty, hints at the album's definite, albeit rare, softer moments. "Walk You Home is by far the most accessible side of our band," says Erak. "We wanted to have a song that had a big, catchy hook and a solid rock groove. We also got our good friend Sam McTrusty to do vocals on it, which was a true treat. We hope people enjoy this side of our new record."
Mission accomplished. With its crushing percussion, dizzying guitar riffs, and the piercingly melodic fusion of Erak and McTrusty's vocals, "Walk You Home" will appeal to a vast group of listeners with multiple genre preferences. Spin the song's premiere right here, and get ready for Black Mass to drop August 28 via Superball Music.
