PureVolume Exclusive: Harlan Premieres "Countdown" Music Video

California star on-the-verge Harlan shows off his smooth vocals and penchant for a crossbreed of genres in his video for the new song, "Countdown." And if the whole thing rings as vaguely reminiscent of the '90s, than you know your music history. "I was at a Blockbuster on Sunset and Hillhurst (in LA). They were playing Timmy T's 'One More Try' music video," recalls Harlan. "As soon as I saw it I said to myself, 'I have to remake this video!' So then I did..."

Between the muted, white-washed lighting affects and Harlan's own unique blend of soul, funk, and '90s-inspired hip-hop, this video certainly does justice to the era it's evoking. It also maintains a humour that hints at the self-awareness that comes with recreating a video like T's.

Having recently wrapped a residency at The Echo in LA and two weeks on Mayer Hawthorne's "How Do You Do" tour, Harlan has been focusing his attention on finishing up his debut full-length. His first release, the Native Son EP, is available at his official website. Grab it, check out the new video directed by Igigi Studios, and be on the lookout for more details about his new album as they become available.
