If Drake went through a time warp and ended up in a 1960s sock-hop, the result could very well be upcoming hip-hop sensation G-Eazy
. Sound crazy? You haven't heard the half of it until you spin his new jam, "Mad" ft. Devon Baldwin — and we mean that in the best possible way. G has brilliantly intertwined fresh beats and hip-hop swag with a touch of 1960s pop to create a song that depicts "the fantasy of falling in love with a stranger at a party just by heavy eye contact; before any words are even exchanged." And what's more, he self-produced the whole thing, which also speaks to the throwback influences that are embraced on this track.
As G told us, "The track is set over a '60's 'Doo-Wop' melody with a 'Trap' infused beat. I'm always seeking to connect the culture, styles, and sounds of classic '60s pop music with today's hip hop. I feel that music has no boundaries and connecting sounds from different decades can reflect the timeless essence of music as a whole."
Spin the tune right here, grab it via iTunes, and be sure to catch the rapper on Warped Tour this summer.
