From Indian Lakes
are the California quintet bringing depth to so-cal indie rock with their new song, "We Are Sick." The song, according to lead singer Joey Vannucchi
, "deals with the idea of following large crowds and doing what you're told. It's easy to do something when it will make everyone around you happy, but it might not be what your heart truly feels is right. I feel like I struggle with this almost every day of my life."
Scruffy guitar riffs and bright percussion provide a backdrop for these coming-of-age themes to stand against. Hook-filled chorus parts build and then crash into soft melodies, while lovesick vocal parts pick the whole thing back up and add a continued sense of momentum. It's a well-constructed track, and one which took some time to land upon. "
The song was the last song written for the album," Vannucchi
told us. "I wrote it during pre-production and after we tracked it you could feel how excited everyone was about how different all of the songs were shaping out to be."
That new album is entitled Able Bodies
, and you can grab it when it drops November 13. For now, spin the song's exclusive premiere, and check out routing details for the band's upcoming West Coast tour with PK
