Yesterday [September 25], Coheed & Cambria released a live acoustic video of a new song, "The Afterman," and today they've dropped the official track via Rolling Stone. The song, which shares a name with their upcoming new album, gains momentum from layered instrumentals, twinkling guitar parts, fuzzy undertones, and frontman Claudio Sanchez's distinct crooning. Noted for their ability to tell a story through song, the band also don't disappoint when it comes to this one. “My wife was alerted about the death of a close friend through Facebook, which is the most impersonal way to receive this intensely personal news,” Sanchez reveals of the song's inspiration. “Later that night, I sat down and just started writing a song”—it became the album’s title track—“from the point of view of her experience. The album’s concept followed from there."
