Circa Survive Stream New Album Violent Waves

There's something to be said for doing things on your own terms. Eight years into their career, veteran experimental indie-rockers Circa Survive made the interesting and admirable decision to self-release their fourth full-length album, Violent Waves. The result? Their most personal and fully-realized album to date — which says a lot, considering their exhaustive catalogue of incredible tunes and thoughtful past full-length efforts.

"We really focused our thoughts on the aesthetic of the band, and the thought that people who like the band will like [the album] if we're doing it for the right reasons," frontman Anthony Green told us earlier this week, when asked about their songwriting process going into this album. These 11 tracks prove that they fulfilled that goal with ease and ingenuity. From the siren-call open and moody undertones of "Birth Of The Economic Hit Man" to the experimentally melodic and refreshingly hopeful tone of "I'll Find A Way," this is an album that constantly shifts from dark to light, creating a striking balance between encouragement and caution, questioning and understanding.

"If there was any goal on the album, for me it was to have a balance," Green told us. "I wanted it to be just as much a question of itself as it was an answer... Sometimes we don't know the answer, but that doesn't mean we should stop trying to look for it."

Stream the album in its entirety right here and grab it when it officially drops August 28. To hear more about the band's decision to self-release and the work that went into Violent Waves, stay tuned to PV on Monday for our exclusive interview with Anthony Green.
