If the first night of
Bamboozle had us stoked for the good that was to come, day two only sealed the deal on our weekend of punk rock bliss. With gates opening at 2PM [and the lines stretching nearly the whole length of Asbury Park's Boardwalk], it was immediately evident that the day was going to be madness. The first of the days bands wasted no time getting set up, and by 2PM sharp, the mixed sounds of guitars and drums from various sets began to echo through the park.
The main stage was dishing out a fierce lineup, and we spent much of the day running from the smaller stages straight back to main, to take in big names like
The Maine,
Never Shout Never, and
Jimmy Eat World. We watched as the crowd roared along to "Some Days", as Christofer Drew took us through a time-warp with "Time Travel", and as Jimmy Eat World sent the park spinning with opening act "Sweetness".
We also caught up with some of your favorite bands [
Motion City Soundtrack,
We Came As Romans], one you're going to get into [Trace Cyrus's
Ashland High], and an organization that keeps us all believing that life is beautiful and pain is temporary [
To Write Love on Her Arms]. We got caught in hardcore heaven with
MyChildren MyBride and were treated to a second performance from We Came as Romans as they filled one of the "Bamboozle Bonus Round"'s slots for the night.
And while we couldn't find much wrong with any of day two's performances, there was without a doubt, not one that compared to the
Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl is seriously
the man. They played an incredible set, littered with current songs and old-time favorites, and packed in a crowd that extended back towards the vendor booths. If there was any set that could bring a crowd together, it was theirs. Whether it was Grohl's tireless energy and palpable passion, or the crowd's excitement for what they were a part of, there was something in the air that seemed to draw all of Bamboozle together. And in the end, they may have done the greatest thing that all music sets out to do -- they unified a crowd of vastly different people, making them all one with the music they were churning out.
