Today we premiered Austin Nivarel's "Stuck Around" video. Here's the PV Q&A -- your chance to get to know the up-and-coming pop-rocker a little better.
PureVolume: Who are you?
Austin Nivarel: My name is Austin Nivarel. I'm 19 years old, from Rice Lake, Wisconsin. I write and record everything that you hear, with the help of my drummer and long time friend, Tony Wick. I have a weakness for English Bulldogs.
PV: When someone at a party asks what kind of music you play, what do you tell them?
AN: If I were at a party, I'd probably mess with the person and tell them I'm either a rapper or the frontman of one of those big-hair metal bands from the '80s. If I'm being honest though, I would call it plain ol' pop-slash-rock.
PV: Who and what are your influences?
AN: Copeland, Adele, Brighten, Eisley, The Almost, and many more. Of course my family and friends influence me as well.
PV: What's been your biggest musical milestone so far?
AN: I'd say probably making the new record out in Chico, California. I loved working with [Number One Gun singer/songwriter] Jeff Schneeweis. The whole experience was pretty surreal for both Tony and me. We met a bunch of awesome people, and I can't complain about missing a few weeks of winter back home.
PV: Who are some other PureVolume up-and-comers you'd like to hip listeners to?
AN: My good friend Josh has a project called Sail By the Stars that everyone should check out. I'd like to see Jeff's new band The Make on here before long also. It's all great stuff. Other than that, I'm definitely a fan of Austin Gibbs.
