Paul McCartney Is Writing A Musical For ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’

Sir Paul McCartney is taking his musicianship in a different direction, announcing plans to enter the world of musical theater. The famed Beatle says he will be creating a musical version of Frank Capra's holiday classic, It's A Wonderful Life.

McCartney will be in good company, partnering with Billy Elliot and Rocketman writer Lee Hall for the project. Hall is no stranger to working with famous musicians to bring film adaptions to the theater, Billy Elliot: The Musical was a collaboration with Elton John.

"Writing a musical is not something that had ever really appealed to me," McCartney said in a statement he released on Thursday.“But Bill and I met up with Lee Hall and had a chat and I found myself thinking this could be interesting and fun. It's A Wonderful Life is a universal story we can all relate to," McCartney added.

It appears McCartney and Hall will make quick work of their production, hoping to premiere the new musical in late 2020. The production is set to make its debut in the UK according to Variety.

Given the hopeful message of It's A Wonderful Life we can't think of a better writer than Paul McCartney, who has his own fair share of songs that include uplifting and positive messages surrounding them.
