MOTORIST JONES BIO
Singer/songwriter Brian Rushing, Bassist Jay Sandford and drummer Chanel Rushing make up the Christian roots rock group Motorist Jones. With influences ranging from rock to jazz to gospel music, Motorist Jones' sound is "undeniably their own" and is best experienced live.
In 2005-2006 the band recorded a demo of their early work and gigged steadily in and around Dallas, gaining recognition as a "surprisingly full" 3-piece and a "rising force to be reckoned with" in clubs, newspapers, podcasts and college radio, as well as local and national battles.
In March of 2007 Brian and Chanel recorded their much-requested acoustic album "Wheels & Chrome," and the band is planning to team up with Judah Records again in December of 2007 to record their full-length electric album. BAND BREAKDOWN :
BRIAN RUSHING GUITAR/VOCALS
Brian is a guitarist and a poet. Neither role takes a backseat to the other. As the leader of the band, he is constantly pushing the limits of what he is capable of artistically. Led Zeppelin and SRV can be heard communicating together in his guitar, and in his lyrics past lessons from teachers such as Bob Dylan and Paul Simon are evident. Coming from a long line of southern musicians, his roots are obvious while his progression is hard to predict.
CHANEL RUSHING DRUMS
Sometimes straight-ahead, sometimes intricate, Chanels playing can be compared to Pearl Jam or The Police. She was brought up through the drum line, jazz band and private lessons covering Afro-Cuban, Latin and jazz. Funky, stylish and tasteful, shes a product of the New Breed.
JAY SANDFORD BASS
Talented enough to play any instrument, man enough to choose the bass. Jay grew up playing gospel music in his grandmothers church and diligently studies all styles, namely greats such as Jaco Pastorius and John Patatucci. He joined the band to study rock music, and his contributions make the songs what they are.

Hey friends,
It's been a long time since we updated our purevolume site - I can't believe we only had acoustic stuff on here! But our single "Baptism" is up now, along with the B side "Only One Day". If you live in the Dallas area you can hear and request "Baptism" on 89.7 Power FM. The Request Line is 1-866-787-1897.
Both songs are available to download from our myspace for .99 or you can order the CD with the music video for $3 on our website www.motoristjones.com
Also, we posted a couple shows, and we will be adding more, so come see us live this fall!
Also, if you want to hear our latest, latest special announcement, you can hear it from DJ Drue Mitchell on the 89.7 Power FM podcast - follow the link to hear the soundbite:

Jay is just so darn popular! He's leaving for a couple months to play bass with the same gospel tour that he did last year. So, the full-length album we had scheduled to record in March will now be our long-awaited acoustic album. I know very few of our friends and fans on PureVolume live in the Dallas area, but Brian and Chanel, the two original members of Motorist Jones have been playing open mics once or twice a month for a year now, and we are asked all the time for a recording of our guitar/cajon set, so it will be great to finally have it on CD. We've posted a couple live recordings for those of you who haven't seen us, so you can get an idea of what it sounds like.
We'll definitely keep you posted on the album release - should be April. And we're also wanting to tour some this summer and fall, so let us know if you guys have churches, coffeehouses, clubs or swimming pools you want us to play at :)
Meanwhile, help us out by requesting our music at the following podcasts:

So, it looks like Jay will be in town for the fall, which is great news for the band! We are currently booking shows, so we will keep you posted on when and where you can come see us live. We're excited about working on new material, playing out, and recording a full-length album - aiming for the beginning of the new year 2007.

Expect to see a lot of Brian unplugged at The Door's Love Lounge, and Standard and Pours in Dallas in the next few months. His solo act always includes new experimental songs. S&P has invited Brian to be part of their "Best Of Open Mic Night" show in October, so we'll keep you updated. And of course, Chanel will be breaking out the cajon most weekends. This will be a great time to sit back and enjoy Brian's singer-songwriter/folk style.
Why the switch to acoustic shows? Sadly, Jay is leaving us for about 6 months to tour the world with some sort of jazz production, which means WE ONLY HAVE A FEW MORE SHOWS AS A FULL BAND before he leaves, so come see us!
In the spring 2007 we'll regroup for full electric Motorist Jones again, with new songs and hopefully many new fans...
