MOTION COMMOTION

Indie / Rock / Electronica

Biography:

Formed in November of 2005, indie-rockers Motion Commotion has in just a few short months secured an impressive online fan base, recorded a tape collage/demo "Sleep" and a polished 7-track concept album EP, attracted the attention of piermont records, and embarked on their first National tour with friends Farewell Flight. This has served as a testament to their DIY mentality, street appeal, uncanny music business knowledge, and coupled with the extensive northeast conservatory training.

Violinist James Wolff attended the Interlochen Art Academy and Peabody Conservatory of Music under the tutorship of Grammy winning composer Nicholas Maw, Christopher Theofanidis, and Randall Packer for inter-media studies at John Hopkins University/MICA. Bassist Elliot Stevenson, a native of New York City is an avid synth and electronics programmer; his presets have been featured in manuals for Electro-Harmonix. He studied classical guitar at the Peabody Conservatory of music under Julian Gray and at SUNY purchase, where he studied under classical Grammy award winner Freddric Hand. Emanuel Ayvas attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill under the direction of world-renowned piano performer Dr. Mayron Tsong and composition professor Dr. Allen Anderson. Drummer and Clarinetist James Cucinotta is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Purchase Conservatory of Music and is a former student Ayako Oshima.

In June 2006 Motion Commotion entered the studio to record their debut self-titled EP with acclaimed Engineer & Producer Jesse Cannon, whose credits include such artists as the Cure, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Saves the Day. The album displays Motions depth, versatility, and what years of professional training can do. Utilizing everything from violin and clarinet to the accordion, the album rocks in an ecliptic and intelligent manner while setting forth a definitive and unique sound environment masterly crafted to exploit their chamber music educations.

Live shows are well-rehearsed unique multi-media experiences with energy, violins, three part harmony, intricate counterpoints, and tape collages. Drawing on classical, indie-rock, experimental noise, and progressive elements, the band is influenced by the history of the New York art scene and intimately tied to its future with performances at CBGBs, and Knitting Factory. With the haunting dark swirling melodies and infectious pop sensibilities of their single BBC Sue, and the multi-climatic myspace hit Make Love, this chamber quartet has entered the scene with a polished and memorable first impression.
