Monitors hail from the forests and fields of the rural Midwest. Drawing cues from Messiaen's utilization of bird songs, Sun Ra's theories on collective improvisation, US Maple's control of time and space, and Ex Models' fundustrialism, they seek to create compositions that evolve from a process much akin to the way in which primitive ritual dramas developed in prehistoric tribal cultures. Monitors formed in the spring of 2004 as a reactionary response to their disappointing local music scene. They self-released Geology in 2005 and released Buller March 21, 2006 on Lona Records as part of their 3" CDR series.
