Members: Miyavi
Miyavi started his rock career under the name Miyabi in the band Due le quartz. Back then he was already noticed, not only for writing most of the songs and playing guitar very successfully, but also for his rock star attitude.
He started his solo career by opening his website right after Due le quartz had officially disbanded in 2002, leaving no time for the fans to grieve... In some ways, his continuation in the music industry seemed only natural, as he still had (and still has) a lot to give, musically.
Yet this was the final proof that Miyabi had indeed been planning his solo career while he was still part of his former band, although you could pretty much guess it by his popularity. He also mentioned that he had kept behind the songs that didnt suit Due le quartz.
As he continued alone, he changed the spelling of his name to Miyavi (in Japanese Miyabi and Miyavi are pronounced the same, although written differently) and asked his fans to write it like that when they were talking about him during his solo career, which, according to him, looks more like himself. He said that he is still very grateful to Due le quartz, and he even tattooed the band name onto his hand, but now as a solo artist he was free from compromises.
His first album Gagaku was released in November 2002. It was quite dark and experimental. The style of his singles changed a lot, from pop to rock to special sounds: it seemed that Miyavi had a huge need to try out all the ideas he had gotten over the years, now that he finally had the chance.
On his albums Miyavi likes to play all the instruments himself, and take care of the vocals as well. He simply likes to do as much as he can. The music is definitely more extraordinary than Due le quartz, which divided the fans. His solo work also includes less guitar, which came as a surprise for his fans - Miyabi was always considered a skilled guitarist. Although some also thought him to be attention seeking, annoying, someone acting overly cool, it was widely agreed that he was undeniably skilful. But that was back then, and now Miyavi had deeply decided to be remembered as an artist in general, not only as that one great guitarist. That wouldn't be enough at all.
The second album Galyuu showed Miyavi as more of a star than his first album. The growth of his fan base and losing the last drops of his visual image made some of the old fans sad, but at least the music hadnt changed, which was a comfort.
Oresama, a movie starring Miyavi, was released in 2003. Before this, he had an extremely tiny part with Due le quartzs vocalist Sakito in the movie Ryomano Tsumato Sono Ottoto Aijin. Being a movie star seems to be a natural continuation of Miyavi's ego, which to him sure isn't the most serious thing in the world.
In the summer 2005, Miyavis large, yet playful ego gets even bigger as he releases the album miyavi - miyavizm shugi. He gets major distribution for his albums and also found a new nickname for himself: short and simple MYV.
