MINUTES TO MEMORIES

Powerpop / Rock / Acoustic

Minutes to Memories is a fun, innocent blend of California powerpop. Influenced by Cheap Trick, The Replacements, The Cars, Fountains of Wayne, the band writes and plays music that is immediately accessible and sometimes insightful. Ive always been into fun music, bands that have catchy choruses. laughs songwriter Ryan. MTM formed when the members talked about making music that represented where they came from and their experiences growing up in the suburbs of Los Angeles. The songs capture everyones adolescent life of hanging out, girls, movies, summer romances, music, heartbreak and occasionally the serious side of growing up. The band is as diverse as California with members from a wide variety of ethnic and musical backgrounds.

Ryan grew up in Huntington Beach but during his freshman year of high school, he was exiled to the hills of the quiet suburban town of San Dimas. Stranded thirty miles from HB and not knowing anyone in his new neighborhood, he started playing guitar to entertain himself. He quickly discovered he had a natural talent for guitar and writing songs. My grandfather played saxophone and one of my earliest memories of music is of him playing his sax, remembers Ryan. Im lucky cause I inherited his musical genes. I played sax in elementary school.Later my Mom had bought my brother a guitar at a garage sale but he was left handed and couldnt play the right handed guitar. I loved the sound of it and even though I am left handed too I stuck with it and learned how to play. In HB I heard a lot of California punk and pop punk. In San Dimas a friend introduced me to a bunch of cool bands from the late 70s and 80s and I discovered a whole new world. I really liked what I heard and new that the songs I wrote would never be the same, mused Ryan. Other then playing music and racing dirt bikes I'm kind of a geek. Im a total movie freak too." he laughs again.

"Lance began playing drums with Ryan in high school when they met at a talent show rehearsal. Lance is obsessed with music. "I just have to play, its what I do. I'm the youngest kid of Jamaican family and the only one born in the US. One of my early inspirations is Carter Beauford of the Dave Matthews Band. Steve Jordon and Travis Barker are both great players. I was a jazz player in junior high and love the drum line stuff I do. Jamaican music is a huge influence on me but I also love the power of punk rock. All music is an adventure to me and with our band we play punk rhythms, rock beats, pop music and even a touch of reggae. Its all cool. The band is a riot I really enjoy playing with them because they are my friends and there isnt a minute that goes by where were not laughing at the funny things that go on. Lance was awarded the 2006 Student of the Year at the Musicians Institute.

Bassist Chau muses, "Hey, I'm just happy to be here and having some fun. I grew up being an outsider and the usual Asian family pressures to be a perfect student. I was a geek in junior high but playing guitar made me more socially acceptable in high school. That and I discovered surfing. My dad still doesnt get why I play and they think that driving an hour to surf is crazy. He still wants me to be a computer programmer or something, he laughs. Me, I just want to entertain people."

Rich is a serious music head and an easygoing dude with a sly sense of humor. I have too many guitars and too many pedals, he jokes about himself. I joined this band because they seemed to be having a good time. Before this I was in a way too crazy screamo band. Now I just want to have some fun and make people jump around and sing along. Is that so wrong? he asks sarcastically.

Thomas agreed to join Minutes to Memories only if he could play cowbell. The band needed more cowbell. I have a degree in music and I know about these things. Besides I play trumpet. They asked me to play keyboards and I never had. That has worked out OK, I guess. You know I can play two keyboards at once now. You know Im funny too. Right? Right?

Were California kids who do normal things. skateboard, go to the movies, Chau surfs, I race dirt bikes. We snowboard. The songs are about growing up and living in California. Lots of them are about relationships and girls. Some are more serious but we think that its cool to write about the good times. Everyone has lots of drama in their lives but everyone has times when things are cool. We want to capture the feelings of when you first see an amazing girl or when youre in the car driving and your favorite song comes on the radio. Its OK to be who you are, to be a kid and have fun. We just want everyone to have fun at our shows.

Minutes to Memories is in the studio recording their follow-up to their 2005 six song self-titled EP. New songs will soon be posted on Myspace.com. They are playing shows at clubs, colleges, coffeehouses, churches, high schools and anywhere kids wanna rock.
