Mike Grosshandler, a.k.a. Mike G., a.k.a. "Harvey", has been making a name for himself in Albany, NY since 1997. He is currently singer/guitarist for the Albany-based rock band The Velmas.

While The Velmas has been his main musical project the last few years, Mike has also been busy writing, recording and performing acoustic material. Over the last few years, he has produced several acoustic recordings on his own. The original intent was to have some kind of demo for himself of each song he'd written.

Using only a single microphone and his home computer in his free time, Mike began putting together the tracks for these songs. After receiving some positive feedback from those he played them for, he decided to release these recordings as a proper CD. The first of these appear on his debut solo demo/album, "Scales" (2003). Mike released his second CD, "Wrote Myself", in October of 2004.

Mike began his musical endeavors with the Long Island based alternative/grunge rock band State of Nowhere. SON existed long enough to release one CD (alternately known as "SON" or "Demo") before splitting up in 1997, its members going on to various projects. Mike moved to Albany and joined up with the band pour.jayce, with whom he lent his guitar skills until 1999. That year, Mike and other former pour.jayce members Figaro and Bruce reformed as The Velmas. In January 2006, The Velmas signed with New York City based independent label City Canyons Records.

I don't feel complete unless I'm making music in some form, be it recording, writing, or performing.

I want my music to be part of the world's life soundtrack.

I believe the only way to achieve a sort of immortality is through music.

I'd appreciate any help in spreading the word about my music, so please tell a friend?

I'm be recording and hoping to release a new solo CD this year. It'll be more than just acoustic guitars this time... 12 songs, 6 different drummers, and me doing all the rest. It's gonna rock. A demo for one of the songs that will be on this album is posted on my profile here - "Blue Skies Black". Check it out.

Also check out my band, The Velmas, too. That's my main musical focus right now, but I'm still actively doing the solo thing, too. Gotta love the acoustic guitar.

Check out The Velmas on Myspace.com!

If you like the acoustic tunes here on myspace, they're all on my 2 CDs - Wrote Myself and Scales. You can get them at CD Baby or Amazon.com, or iTunes.
