MIDWEST DILEMMA

Indie / Folk / Acoustic

Midwest Dilemma presents orchestral folk songs and waltzy ballads on their debut release, Timelines & Tragedies. Twenty-three members, consisting of strings, woodwinds, brass, orchestral drums, and nontraditional chamber instruments accompany singer-songwriter Justin Lamoureux. Timelines & Tragedies is a timeline of family history, tracing Lamoureux's ancestors to their days of French Canadian fur trading, the struggles of his parents' generation with Vietnam, and eventually concluding with his life in Omaha. Timelines & Tragedies is the perfect outcome of Midwest Dilemma's vision.

"Timelines & Tragedies is a solid folk-based album with a natural ebb and flow of lush orchestration, complete with strings, brass, woodwinds and male/female vocal harmonies."
- Omahype

"Lamoureux is a stream, it doesn't matter if for a time he is only trickling through rocks and soil, his conviction is the rainfall, pouring much needed force sustenance to the stream - it can't be stopped. He will find his ocean; it's inevitable."
- CityWeekly

"Midwest Dilemma's sound has matured into an intelligent orchestrated folk sound from its early roots-rock beginnings. Lamoureux's extraordinary story-telling songwriting style has made this transition feel effortless. Combining strings and woodwind instruments gives the songs a rootsy-symphonic feel reminiscent of chamber pop artists such as Okkerville River and Sufjan Stevens, as well as New Weird Folk Movement artists such as Iron and Wine, Will Oldham, and Devendra Banhart."
- Homers Music

"Above all, there is an inexplicable power to Timelines & Tragedies that gives it such an epic quality. The recording quality is superior and will win the challenge against any medium. Highlights include Françoise, with a powerful arrangement that is well performed by the chamber orchestra. The Great Depression features great rhythms, wayward guitar, and more wonderful orchestral elements. The title track, Timeline & Tragedies, is a beautiful duet and a great story. If you enjoy intelligent and cinematic folk music, give Midwest Dilemma a try."
