Melophobic was conceived around October 2005, by Joel (spacey guitars), Bambi( beats), Rj (bass), RS (tripped-out guitars), and Nimrod (vocals). Though a relatively new name in the scene, the individual members are no virgins to the music. RS, Joel and Rj have been known for their work on No Anonymous Child(R.I.P.), While Bambi is involved with Yesteryear, and Nimrod has been associated with a number of bands, more notably WTC-11 and ska outfit Skunky Muggles.
The term Melophobicmeans afraid of music. Bassist Rj gave the idea for the name, suggesting that their name should reflect an antithesis of what they are doing, sort of a fear in music. After a couple of days, Joel coined up the name as a literal meaning to Rjs suggestion. Hence, the band name.
From the very start, the band is already hell-bent on playing originals that hover on the pummeling, yet melodic aspects of rock. Each member brings a different taste to the table as the sound of Melophobic begins to develop. RS is all about sonic metal riffing from the glam and thrash era; Joel is into the eclectic forms of metal, from the ethereal to the extreme; Bambi brings the new school flavor into sound; Rj is more into alternative and melodic forms of rock; while Nimrod rounds out the set by giving the chill-out vibe into Melophobic. Their common denominator, however, is the willingness of the members to be stay true to their roots, and remaining melodic as well in their songwriting.
Though the individual members have been in the scene for quite some time already, the band still goes through the birth pains that every other band has been through. The band has to work their way from scratch, from songwriting, to landing gigs, and band marketing. Since the Cebu music scene is still quite small, its who you know that will get you from point A to point B. But this did not become a hindrance to the members of Melophobic. On the contrary, this has become the driving force for the band to continue honing their craft.
Upon listening to the new songs of Melophobic, it seems the band is headed in both directions towards a heavier, pounding sound and towards a lush, ambient style. However the band still retains the melodicism and emotion from their past work. One might easily dismiss the band as post hardcore emo, but behind all the sonic treachery lies a goldmine of promise. With each new song, the band infuses new styles and influences in its sound in order to reach a wider audience.
As of the moment, the band is currently working on the studio, writing and recording new material, for an album release. Given the chance, these guys have something special going on for them, and theyre gonna go all the way with a little hardwork, patience and passion in what they do best make great music.
