Everything you want or don't want from an indie artist. You decide.
I suppose I am some sort of singer/songwriter. I have been in two bands all the while continuing to write and record demos for future band projects and solo projects.
The two bands I have beena part of include the following:
BAND #1:
The Waking Hours (Richmond, Virginia / Los Angeles, California)
The Waking Hours can be described as britpop/powerpop/indie rock/quasi-punk. They formed years ago in Richmond Virginia and released one indie album and one major label album before I joined. I joined in 2000 and we all moved to Los Angeles. There we finished up our third album which was an true indie album called, "The Good Way"We released the album in March 2003and had a CD release show at the famous Roxy on Sunset Blvd. Opening for us were Robert Carmine and Taylor Locke of Rooney.
While in theband I had thepleaseure of playing many great venues in LA with bands such as Rooney, Maroon 5, Smile, Dios, Big City Rock and many others.
We also have had our songs in some major films as well as in various tv shows on MTV and also in various xbox and ps2 games. In addition to that we played SVSW and The Warped Tour.
I left the band in late 2003. To pursue a more creatively freeing outlet for my music.
BAND #2:
Edison Gower (Los Angeles, California)
Edison Gower started out as a two man band of pure pop music fans. Jake Gideon and myself founded the band. We wanted to do something along the lines of the whole Largo club scene in Los Angeles which features acts such as Jon Brion, Aimee Mann, Rhett Miller and Michael Penn to name a few. We also wanted to throw in a little UK pop influences from the likes of Travis and Radiohead. Edison Gower is what came from that mix of influences. In 2005 we added Keyboardist Jillinda Palmer to the band.
We have gotten Airplay on Los Angeles legendary KCRW as well as had a song featured in the WB channel TV show, "Glory Days". Just recently we had a song in the film and on thesoundtrack of the new indie film, "29 Reasons To Run". So far the film and soundtrack has gotten rave reviews and both the film and music has won many awards. The Los Angeles Premier of the film is to be held at the world famous Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd on October 8th, 2006.
Jake and I, while no longer a fully active band, still do write and record together and hope to do future compositions for film and TV. We also have a new full-length album in the final production stages now called, "The Shelf Life of Butterflies" which we hope will be available in early 2007. We also just finished up a brand new song called "Out In California" which will either be on a new Edison Gower EP or album in the not too distant future. We have a few other song ideas in the works so who knows what great new music will come from us next.
I am now trying to get some sort of new project going which I hope to have rolling soon. I have written many new songs and have started demoing them for whatever that new project willbe. Whatever it is I am excited about thenew music and hope that I can get it out there to you all as soon as possible.
So please, everyone stay tuned.
And for now sit back and enjoy the songs I have online to offer you.
Mark
