Josh Dooley founded MAP in 2000, and farted around with a revolving lineup of musicians, recording two EPs. On these records, Dooley was flirting with melody, searching for hooks, and exercising his guitar chops to mixed results (frankly, the songs went nowhere). It was on 2003âs Secrets By The Highway where Dooley nailed the proverbial âit.â° That record is full of finely crafted melodies, subtle yet substantive hooks, and his impressive musicianship. He struck a balance, and had the songs to back it up.
