Lustra were the kids that no one would play with. Chris and Nick started back in Boston as a two-piece outfit comprised of drums and bass. They squatted in other bands' spaces, sweated and bled on borrowed gear, and nursed themselves into fighting shape on countless cases of Meister Brau. They were the rambunctious younger brothers to every band they knew, and noone would play with them. Not until they developed their dangerously unschooled drums-and-bass explosion into a noise slightly resembling rock, did they make the addition of Chris' brother Jon on guitar.
Within a month their obnoxious behaviors were bringing them vast amounts of attention on the tiny stages of Boston. Maybe it was the dresses and make-up, the drunken antics, or the unpredictable songwriting, but they soon found themselves ushered off of the tiny stages and into bigger venues, opening for acts like Queens of the Stone Age, Staind, Nashville Pussy, Primus, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and others. The lust for Lustra soon spread to regions as near and far as Reykavik, Iceland and the whole of South Africa where the band embarked on a month-long tour.
Amidst all the attention, Lustra went on to record three LPs and an EP for Boston's own XOFF Records. On the strength of the band's second full-length release, "Bikini Pie Fight," Lustra muscled its way into the CMJ top 50 (including a ..11 stay at most-added) which then garnered them a nationwide distribution deal with BMG/V2 Records.
In 2001 the band relocated to Los Angeles, where they soon caught the eyes and ears of the film and television industry. In addition to writing the cult-hit "Scotty Doesn't Know" for the DreamWorks film "Eurotrip" the group was flown to Prague to appear along side Matt Damon, who makes a cameo as their singer in the film. The "Eurotrip" soundtrack has sold nearly 100,000 copies to date.
Beyond the Boston years, the band has undergone a few additions and subtractions to the line up. In the beginning Chris played drums and Nick played bass. Now Chris plays bass and Nick plays guitar. With the added talents of lead guitarist Travis Lee and drummer Phil Matthews, Lustra is re-injected with all the vicious swagger it was born out of.
Lustra's new album "Left for Dead," includes eleven songs which enlist the recording, mixing and production talents of John Paterno (Eels, The Warlocks, The Thrills), Joe Barresi (Weezer, Queens of the Stone Age, Fu Manchu), Sylvia Massy Shivy (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, System of a Down), and Scott Riebling (American Hi-Fi, Letters to Cleo).
