you know how parents like to ask their toddlers wheteher they would like a baby brother or sister? and that's because they are already pregnant? what if the child says no? does it even matter what the child's opinion is? it's not like if the child strongly disagrees and throws tantrums that the parents would abort the 'baby brother or sister'. so why ask? i guess it is a courtesy question, but it gives one false hope. and furthermore it results in the simplifying of what a human is. by posing the baby as something to have, there is an almost equating of the baby to a mere material good. and does a child know what there is to like or not like about a baby? especially a younger sibling who may turn out like me? they understand not fully the implications and the sometimes dire consequences that their simple 'yes' holds.
