"Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages."
-Thomas Edison

My name is Jenn, remember that.
I love life.
But I also like loud, intense music.
It's the kind that makes babies cry while inciting a riot.
Just none of that vomit stuff. You can go puke someplace else. kthanks.
But the stuff that makes you wanna dance is the best...
With horn sections that have unsurpassed talent,
And vocalists that don't need to scream to prove their worth.
Mostly I like feel-good music.
I go to shows because I love them and the bands that play at them.
I also play bass in one of those bands.
& I like to design graphics and junk too
Although on the contrary, I am not "scene" and I am not At! the Disco;
I just refuse to grow-up.

...And I never felt so high as my back is to the ground;
and we're staring at the stars, making faces at the clouds.

Fight war, not wars;; Kill the power, not the people.

Warped Tour!!

Soo...no intro.
Let's just get right to it.

This year was my first time attending the Vans Warped Tour and i had no idea what to expect. I mean, I heard stories but still, you can't believe everything you hear. So, amazingly enough I slept that night, yet I got up for 6 a.m. And we left for 7:30...because of course we had to go all over creation picking kids up and of course, I had forgot our chewy bars, and my morning Rockstar. But other than that, it was turning out to be a perfect day. Especially because this disgusting heat wave we had been in for days, was over!!

Ok so...we got in Wilkes Barre around 9-ish, but we needed to make a pit stop at a Mc.Donalds...where these old men were fascinated by my pink pants...heh. Yea it was very odd when they were all staring at me. Anyways, I get off topic so quickly. Does that mean I have ADD? Yea whatever I'm cool. So then we were dropped off at Montage Mountain at like 9:15 and it was so rad, because we went in the enterance all the bands did. I felt important.

So, we waited, and waited, and waited...while in the meantime, everyone and their brother had us listen to their band. Some were good, and some were not. But after what seemed like forever, we were in! & It was amazing.

The first band we were set to see was Armor For Sleep. They played at 11:30 at the Hurley Stage. And since we were some of the first kids into Warped to begin with, we got to their stage, and were lucky enough to claim front-row center baby! Wow. So we waited some more, and then, there they were... Ben stepped out on stage, and I was like, wow, what is going on? Is this all for real? Long story short, they played, they rocked, & I got amazing pictures.

Then we were off to see the local boys, Arsenal Mayhem. Yea, they are still pretty amazing. There's not a whole lot more I can say about that...but I did pick up their new demo. It's really good. And I think I should tell you, they're going to be big someday. They just are. I can feel it.

Umm..let's see...then we were basically just walking around for a while, until we got back through to the main stage area where Motion City Soundtrack was set to play at 1:30. I'm not a fan of them...and I'm still not. But Danielle wanted to see them and we had nothing better to do, so we saw Motion City Soundtrack. But really, I could have done without the flying people...

Finally, Motion City Soundtrack was done with their set, and we were headed for the Energizer signing tent...to meet THURSDAY! Wow. I can't believe how lucky I was, even now. I've always had bad luck but this, was incredible. I was going to meet Thursday! The band that basically changed my life! The only thing is we had to wait in this line for half an hour... but it was well worth it. Although, I think waiting in that line killed my kidneys. I had to pee the whole time. Ok, maybe that was a little to much info there... but really, it did seem like forever... Anyways, they are very nice guys, really they are. They all said hi, but, when I got down to Geoff (because he was last in line) I was thinking ot myself, "This is Thursday you idiot! Do something!" So, obviously I couldn't rape them or kidnap them or anything like that...so I did the next best thing, well kinda... I asked Geoff for a high five...and he was like, "Sure", and had to get up out of his seat, but gave me one nonetheless. No one else got a high five because the lady was so strick. I couldn't even get a picture...but still, I could now die happy.

My day was pretty much complete at that point, but we still needed to see Splt Fifty, NoFX, and of course, Thursday.

Split Fifty was amazing...as usual right? I got so many good pics of them though. I think they're all very photogenic. But, Zach Fifty died his hair jet black. Who does that? I mean, no one's hair is naturally jet black and it always looks bad. But, yea, he was still pretty rad I suppose.

Ok, my fingers are starting to hurt, but I'll trudge onward. We were now headed for NoFX. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of them either - especially because Fat Mike makes fun of everyone! Who needs all of that negativity? Not me. But he was kinda funny... except, we were only able to see their introduction, and about 30 seconds into their first song, due to the force of hundreds of kids pushing forwards...and me being rather... "not strong", was fed up very quickly. So, we snuck over to Thursday's stage and had a nice view of both NoFX and eventually Thursday...

Yea, Thursday was amazing. I mean, I had seen them on their Shirts for a Cure Tour at Croc Rock...but it was nothing compared to this. We were so much closer...and there was so much less smoke! I was having the time of my life and really, could care less about the constant throwing of garbage, and people that was going on all around me. They had a great live show - despite rumors of Geoff running out of breath...they owned! And, Geoff talked between songs, and told everyone the meaning behind At this Velocity. I had no idea...I mean, Thursday almost died! Wow, well along with the Mars Volta and Poison the Well. Can you imagine?! I can't. And I don't want to. But, he also told everyone to go home and download their music for free! He said that everyone should have music, even if they can't exactly afford it, because that's just not fair. Wow. What great guys. As for their last song, as always, they played Jet Black New Year. My favorite. I went crazy and didn't care...hrmm...

Yea blah blah blah...then we saw some of Rise Against and Silverstein, and then headed home. We ran into so much traffic and saw a car on fire...but August 4th was the best day of my life probably.

I can only wait until next year!

Yea so...If you read all of that, let me know because I owe you a hug.

Thursday Concert

Wow. I can hardly believe, I never posted a blog...describing every single detail of the Thursday conert I attended, actually, a little over a month ago. That is so unlike me.

Here it goess...

I think I should mention now that this was my first..."real rock show", so to say. I have been to many many shows around my area, but never anything quite like this. Ok so, my friends and I arrived there early, to ensure we had a good spot. So we waited outside for a while, and and I have never seen so many, "scene" kids in one place, ever. It was really something. I even felt a little out of place. Reguardless, the doors soon opened and everyone poured into Croc Rock. I didn't know what to expect, but at first I was in awe, that such a small venue could hold all of the people whom were waiting outside in the same line I was just in. But don't get me wrong - people were everywhere.

My friends and I were in the middle of the floor, but closer to the front than the back, and we were satisfied. We knew that since Thursday was playing their set last, we would have plenty of time to make our way to the front when they played...but we were dead wrong. Once the first band took the stage, everyone went crazy, and a mosh broke out. It was nothing I couldn't handle but nevertheless, tried to avoid it. That worked for a while and we were even getting closer to the front. Then, another band came on stage...and that was it, the biggest mosh erupted and I was stuck in the middle of it. I'm not a very strong, or large person, so I was not happy. I held onto my friends hands for dear life, I mean I didn't want to lose them, or me. At one point I almost lost my shoe. That pit, luckily, didn't last very long. It took me a few minutes but I then regained my bearings, my shoes, and my friends. I was ok again. But the crowd was so pumped, they kept pushing and shoving, more, and more, as it came closer to Thursday's turn. At that point, I could have sworn I was on a boat, and I was about to be sea-sick. I was drenched in sweat, standing next to kids whom all around me were smoking, or just as sweaty as I was, and then my friend, Crystal, comes up to me, and doesn't look very good. She needed to go to the back to cool down. I willingly joined her in the back of the club, hoping to find some salvation and cool air.

We ended up being back there most of the show. It was probably only 5 degrees cooler, but without sweaty strangers next to you, it gave you room to breathe in the smokey air. I'm not used to smoking because no one in my family smokes, so the smoke had an effect on me, and I became dizzy and nautious. I was overheating. There was no where to go and the last thing I was going to do was leave before Thursday came on! So, I sucked it up and sat down, next to strangers, on the grimy, dirty floor and closed my eyes for a few minutes. My head stopped spinning. Ok, this was going to work, I told myself, I was going to be fine. So a friend, whom we just met that night, offered to get water for everyone. I gave her my money and 10 minutes later she did come back with salvation. It was kind of warm, but I did not care. It was water, and it helped. And the only way to tell you how I felt...is to say, I felt like I was going to die, and my friends thought I looked the part too.

Finally, Thursday was set to take the stage. Once they did, and I heard the guitar lick in Understanding In a Car Crash...it was...like someone took me someplace else. I knew of no dizziness, I was no longer drenching in sweat, I was no longer thirsty, and I was estatic. It still amazes me what a difference occured in a matter of seconds. But they were amazing. I was truely blown away by their performance. Geoff always puts so much of himself into his performance, and his songs, it's incredible. Everyone was going nuts. You can tell it was a Thursday crowd. I was in awe. I recently had a kid ask me, if they sang in tune, because rumor has it, Thursday is bad live. But, I don't remember them being out of tune...but I guess I wouldn't be a good judge, seeing the conditions I was under. But really, it was great. And it was the day before "A City By the Light Divided" hit stores, so they were super amped along with the crowd. When they finished their set everyone was chanting, "One more song". Of course, it didn't take long, until they were back on the stage and performing Jet Black New Year. As of that day, Jet Black New Year, is my favorite song. But I was taken aback when it was time for the bridge, and everyone stopped moshing and pulling each other's heads off, and they just...stopped. Everyone, including myself, held out our hands, and counted right alongside Geoff. It was amazing. An experience I will never forget.

MTV should die.

It has been a well known fact for some time now that once MTV gets ahold of a new band, they turn them into huge pop-punk sellouts. Let me explain.

I shall begin with an example, Hawthorne Heights. Now, as some of their new fans may not realize, they weren't always Hawthorne Heights, they were originally under the name, "A Day In the Life". Later obviously, it was changed but the fact of the matter is, they're an amazing band. Thanks to MTV, posers all over the country have jumped on the Hawthorne Heights bandwagon and are so in love with them it sickens me. And what about their fans before they were plastered all over TRL? Well, chances are, they're lessening everyday as another great band is ruined.

Even myself, I had made plans to attend their "Never Sleep Again Tour" because it was simply, a few awesome bands playing awesome music - but that was before anyone had ever heard of them. Now, everyone can tell you who they are and recite every line in "Ohio is For Lovers" but I bet they can't tell you the name of any other song on that album... Besides that, I could not bear to go to the concert knowing I was surrounded by posers when I liked this band first, and they're not all that new, to put it bluntly.

It is a disgusting concept all around and MTV needs to leave the bands alone before they ruin the scene altogether. And of course, no one can forget about the biggest sellouts of 2005, Fall Out Boy. I refuse to purchase their new cd for the same reasons. I liked them back even before "Take This to Your Grave" but now, I hate them. It hurts me to listen to them. The same story goes for My Chemical Romance.

My point is simply this, MTV destroys bands and creates sellouts. They should stop trying to invade the scene because they know nothing about it. And, the only thing important to them is the money, not the music by the bands they implore.
