Merciless Me

Behind this facade I gaze, into the mirror and see

The cracked twisted reflection, of the merciless me

His eyes scarred with sadness, as misery enfolds

A soul marred with treason, a heart driven cold

Hatred fueled by the fires, of an ever-present past

The addiction that never left, and the love that didn’t last

A voice hoarse from the screaming, a shirt stained with the guilt

His hands cold and callous, from all the walls that he built

A creator of false ambition, a destroyer of self

A mind that’s always weary, in sickness and in health

His cheeks are worn and weathered, from all the tears he cried

A candle burns in remembrance, of a happiness that died

And I gaze into the rubble, what’s left of this man’s life

At the desolate remains, of the heartbreak and the strife

At the wounds steadily bleeding, as he tries to hold his own

At the inevitable hopelessness, he tries hard not to show

But this man stands today anew, saved by sacrifice

Of a man’s unending love, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

And in an attic somewhere, is a forgotten memory

A torn and tattered photograph, of the merciless me
