We are having a big week coming up at Ropeadope with several new releases First up KICKSVILLE! Kicksville-Season 1- "Phatty"-11/10/08 Kicksville-- musical collective, political movement and virtual community – follow up their recent full-length 'The Results of a Higher Mission' (Ropeadope Digital) with a cavalcade of 13 digital-only singles they call 'Season 1.' The season begins November 10th with the release of "Phatty," and continues for 13 consecutive weeks; each single will be available for purchase from Ropeadope Digital: http://www.klicktrack.com/ropeadope/home "Season 1" ranges from long-lost Kicksville originals to audacious covers of The Police, Willie Dixon, and Talking Heads. Each single includes a unique cover created by nationally recognized illustrator and Kicksville Citizen Andy Ewen. Kicksville's Mayor, Mike Stehr (Bass, Vocals, Keys, Percussion) and Commissioner, Conrad St. Clair (Bass, Vocals, Keys, Percussion) curate a crack team of collaborators on these special releases. In classic Kicksville fashion, these singles showcase the collective's improvisation, melodic sensibility, intriguing programming and bizarre sound effects "built for artistic insurrection" (Wired.com). Then the one and the only: HUW!!-11/11/08 HUW's new EP, Amplexus, sees an all original set created with drums, keys, guitars, sax and live electronics in the mix. Never short on talent, the music is as eclectic and varied as the instruments used to create it. Fusions of Nu Jazz, Electro Funk, Hip Hop and even Prog Rock are blended together to keep you chilled out, dancing and smiling in equal measures. The experimental, instrumental rock quartet hailing from Burlington, Vermont as been consistently hitting the road developing their signature sound. whether it's breathtaking planes of atmospheric space, onslaughts of powerhouse rock, or heavy driving rhythms, Japhy Ryder's musical versatility has led to the creation of a tight, unified voice. With a hard hitting rhythm section, riff heavy guitar, and ethereal trumpet, the group is continually bridging genres (think dub/afrobeat/jazz/hip-hop/rock) and surprising audiences (think "OMG, they sparked my crotch!"). They have rocked clubs throughout the northeastern United States, playing over 150 shows a year, including gigs at some of the region's biggest venues, such as Burlington's Higher Ground, New York City's Knitting Factory, and Cleveland's Beachland Ballroom. It contains an electrifying sax solo by the artist's late friend, Jason Rae, a renowned musician who played with Mark Ronson's band and The Haggis Horns, to name a few. In JD73's own words: "I feel this track is a very fitting musical tribute to Jason, and I know everyone that hears it will agree how amazing the solo is and what an incredible talent Jason was." "Waves" features the drumming of Luke Flowers (Cinematic Orchestra/Haggis Horns) and was captured using one mic and a vintage Uei compressor. The Rhodes features as the main melodic instrument, and it adds an ethereal dimension to the funky, jazzy track. Says JD73, "My vision for this track was based on waves of water ebbing and flowing and trying to get that across to the listener. It's a peaceful yet funky track that takes the listener on a journey through different moods and feels."
