Close to Home

There is this band on PV called Close to Home who emailed PureVolume about benefit they were doing down in their hometown somewhere in Florida. The benefit was for their bass player, Brad Andress, who was battling cancer. I gave them a listen and liked what I heard so I gave them a PurePick to help boost their online presence and give them some more exposure to help the event take full shape.

A couple weeks went by and I got a "thank you" email from them. They were overjoyed with the homepage placement and wrote about how the event was a great success, raising money for worthy cause and getting the music community involved about a truly worthy cause. The email made me feel like the band had a real sense of accomplishment and there was really nothing but good feelings all around.

Today, I got another email. This one wasn't as personalized, as I'm sure it went out to a large group of people. Its one purpose was to inform everyone that Brad has passed away.

You can read Brad's story on Close to Home's purevolume page. Checkout their music and pay your respects.

Hell Freezes Over

The following is supposedly an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following: First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different Religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during
my Freshman year that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct...leaving only Heaven thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."

This student received the only "A" grading.

Sing to this...

So this weekend I was very excited in anticipation of the Panic! at the Disco show (The Academy Is..., Acceptance, Hellogoodbye) but to my dismay, only one band delivered.

The show started off with Hellogoodbye who I don't really like from the get-go, but after a decent set, the whole band threw on hot-dog & hamburger fruity costumes and started jumping around onstage singing the lyrics to a dance song. They invited a few friends along to jump around with them whic made for the "gayest thing I have ever seen."

Then came Acceptance. Excellent show! They are truly rock stars. They play in sync and they put on a hell of a show. Farbeit of the mass of 14 yr olds at the show to appreciate this, but nonetheless, Acceptance stood out. Kudos guys.

So now it was time for Panic! at the Disco to play. The anticipation was intense, as I love this band more than anything these days, and Im not afraid to admit it. However...their lead singer cannot sing. He handed off every high note to the audience, who complied, or to his guitarist/back up vocalist. The high notes he got stuck having to sing, he substituted with the lower octave. It was lame. My mouth was open most of the show from shock. The biggest up-and-coming band in America can't play a live show. Wow.

We left after Panic and missed TAI... sorry guys, blame you're rookie label-mates.

December 2

Check 1-2, Microphone Check, 1-2 ...we've got a hot mic.

This is where I let you all know that I'm forming a band called The Inside Scoop. We will be comprised of a guitarist, a drummer, a vocalist, a bassist and xylophonist. The xylophone is what will set us apart from bands before us that made millions of dollars, paving a clear path towards the platinum and multiplatinum recognition we deserve.
