usually it's either Feigna// Exile// or "hey you, get over here!."
# i am severely addicted to caffeine and energy drinks. [i've made it my personal goal to try as many brands as i possibly can before my biological system goes into hyperactive mode and shuts down on me.]
# i'm also about as random as consistency can be.
# 102% prone to go from some form of crack-addict behavior to being [rather comically] sedated.
# unfortunately for you, i am an avid vegetarian. one of those peta2 kids. so deal with it.
# guys are ten thousand times better than girls.
# and yes, like the rest of the world, i wish i were a vampire.
# most amusingly of all, i'm certainly not afraid to speak my mind.

yes, it's unfortunate, but it's true. every time we log in to PV, there's another feature resembling that of myspace. no good. PV is for music, about music, because of music. day in and out, myself and many others are frequently reminded of myspace.
i've grown accustomed to it for the past month or so, simply telling myself that it wasn't going to get that bad, and that it's still about the music. and to some degree, it is. but more and more, PV is losing its sense of music culture, and adopting that of the pop. world.
examples:
1. comments: who the hell needs them? if you'd like to talk to someone, because you find you have a common interest (hopefully dealing with music, since you're on PV in the first place), send them a god damned message. no one wants to read everything you have to say about how hot someone is, or how totally amazing and how much you love them because you've been dating for two days. there's a place for that: myspace.
2. photos: yes, we love taking pictures of ourselves, but take a look around. go to a band's PV, look at their fans. find me one band who doesn't have a fan with a "myspace whore" photo. hey, lightbulb... we don't want to see down your shirt. we don't care. we're here for the music. (once again, take a trip to myspace.com. you'll be happier there.)
3. blogs: you may call me a hypocrite, unless you actually read what i have to say instead of skimming this and seeing a blog about the problem with blogs. the deal is this: entries dealing with music, or PV, are alright. entries about your daily life, and your boyfriend/girlfriend, are pointless. if you're promoting a band, give a brief synopsis about their last show in a blog. i encourage it. if you've found something inspirational about music, spit it out; someone will probably share the same ideas, and you'll strengthen the vivacity of music culture. if you're looking for some people to play with, and need to give a brief description of yourself and influences, do it. as long as it doesn't drag on about how you got wasted and slept with three people in one night. no one gives a damn.
i do believe that quite a few features on PV are useful, though.
i like the "friends" idea, though i don't think they need to be displayed on your front page. meeting people with similar taste in music, and similar ideals is important. as long as it doesn't turn into (which it already has begun) the automatic response to a friend request. simple as this: don't hit "approve" until you've messaged that person and decided if they're really friend worthy. you wouldn't do it in real life, so why do it on the internet?
tags aren't a bad idea either. of course, they are abused pretty often, but for the most part, it helps in narrowing down a selection of people to open up to about your musical opinion.
billboards aren't too bad. once again, they're abused left and right, but it's up to you to decide what to put in your billboard. hopefully, it's something about music and not your chronic sexaholic disorder.
i know that pointing out the obvious doesn't mean it will disappear. unfortunately. but PV needs to remain PV, and about the music.
myspace can rot in eternal hell.

blayke

Update on Remember2's status:
The show on April 21st was pretty good. I would love to say that the frontman of Kiss Her Goodbye was very kind to the lot of us. There's also a guy in Fairport who resembles him, which makes me wonder if there's any relation between the two.
Power Lines and Broken Hearts EP is now available. Contact one of the guys through myspace if you'd like one. Which you would. Of course you would.
Next show is this Sunday, at Waterstreet in the battle. Monday night is at The Penny Arcade. Both shows, of which, will be phenom. I suggest you go.
REMEMBER TOMORROW will be playing on APRIL 21ST, at STEEL MUSIC HALL on Scottsville Rd.
they are currently recording their EP, and promoting themselves on MySpace. [url: www.myspace.com/remember2 ]
other shows will be posted on the above named site. they'll most likely start traveling further out, so if you live a bit from Rochester, watch for them to come near you.
thanks.
