How to Be a Preppy Scene Kid
All you need to do is go into Starbucks or into the city and see the many kids wearing all the right scene clothes and accessories. The bows, beads, skinny jeans, plaid shirts, flats and the hair in the face. They look like wannabes who still think 'Scene' is a 'Happy Emo'. Anyone could do this, yet there is always something not right with the way these people do it. They don't look scene. To be the genuine, hot scene kid, it's best to be the preppy type.
[edit] Steps
1.Let's begin with the style. On the upper half, a typical scene kid wears a tight fitted band tee or plaid shirt, leopard print is also extremely popular among the preppy scene kids. A grey, patterned or black hoodie to cover, or a cute girly cardigan. Beads in vibrant colours, layered on. Originality is great, as an unsuspecting person may think that this is scene, and you may even start a trend. Preppy scene girls don't wear bandannas. Wear scarves.
2.Get the right hair. This is the most identifiable scene indicator. Hairstyles usually consist of white blonde or jet black colors, choppy layers, short or very long in length. Extensions are part of the scene. Colors can be added to make your hair look 'Radd,' contrasts preferable (e.g. blonde with black). The style is to volumize like you got dragged through a bush backwards. That's why short layers are handy. The layers give your hair that oomph'. Accessorize your hair with big or little bow clips, hair bands and any cute little girl accessories you can find without having to put your hair in a ponytail.
3.Wear the right clothes. Go for Skinny jeans, leggings or footless tights with frayed denim skirts. Camo shorts are more tomboyish. Leave it to the less stylish. The tights are great in a bold color or pattern. Again, don't be afraid to wear leopard print! The style of shoes are either Vans, Converse or flats. Preppy scene kids love to wear flats. Patent adds to the dolly, child-like effect, and in a bold colour, this effect is even better. You get extra points for bows or polka dots.
4.Listen to the scene music. Any underground HxC (hardcore) metal or screamo is essential. You are allowed to like rap and pop. You won't get slagged off by other scene kids. Alternative music that really doesn't have a label is also a plus. Add a song (make sure its actually good) that no one has really heard of to your Myspace page. Don't even bother being a scene kid unless you have a myspace page.
5.Wear minimal makeup. Eyeliner is essential. Wear powder to give you that childlike porcelain effect. Keep it pale girls, not orange. Blush is allowed. Keep the rosy cheeks to a minimum. Wear vibrant eyeshadows and unusual make up for shows or shopping. Scenesters tend not to wear it in school. Thick eyelashes are a must. Eyelash curlers may be needed if mascara isn't giving you enough volume. Sometimes preppy scene girls draw hearts at the outer corner of their eye using eyeliner. If you decide to get facial piercings, go for lip rings, snake bites, Monroes and nose rings. If you're not allowed, its ok. Preppy scenes are girly and more eclectic anyways. Don't get a fake ring for your lip because fake rings make you appear as a wannabe, and no one wants that.

[edit] Tips
Childish things make you look even more scene. Hello Kitty clasps, collections of cute, childish things like Pokemon and Batman are all great choices. Cuddly toys add to your Scene-ness in the home.
Volume means a lot of hairspray and back-combing, but be careful that you don't create frizzy hair.
Check out vintage clothing. If you don't have a nearby thrift store, Urban Outfitters is a major haven for that individual style.
Keep a camera with you at all times. Photos are scene, particularly self-taken ones in mirrors and from angles.

[edit] Warnings
Start being scene around 12, but start slowly. It'd be wierd looking at a tweleve year old girl with big hair and streaks. You could buy the clothes, if they fit you. If they dont, stay who you are; you'll look like a walking mountain of clothes.
Straighten that hair. Waves are a no-no. Maintaining and creating a style that's straight with volume is difficult, but once you learn it you will earn scene respect.
Don't shop in well-known stores. Other people will think you're a wannabe. If you do, make sure its a vintage inspired store like Topshop.
Don't do all this "rawr, I'm a dino" stuff or the robots. They are finito, and I have witnessed total losers with it in their names thinking they're scene even though its no longer in style.
Remember, preppy is style and appearance-inspired. Never falter, or your reputation as a scene kid will suffer.
Don't try too hard to be scene. Make the change gradually so that if you get your look wrong one day, its less noticeable. That is why individuality counts.
