RIP ANGEL DIAZ.

Angel Alexander Diaz Jr. died when his water scooter clipped the corner of a dock on a Kendall lake Saturday, the family said.

''He was the leader of any situation,'' said his father, Angel Diaz, 48. ``He always stood up for the little guy.''

Diaz Jr. was riding with his two best friends and a chaperon on an E-shape lake, southwest of The Falls shopping center, Diaz said. About 4 p.m., he turned his head to talk to a friend and didn't realize he was too close to a dock.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Diaz said.

When he was 8 years old, Diaz Jr. won first place in a state gymnastics competition, but a heel injury kept him from continuing further.

By that time, he had already found his calling -- to be a businessman.

''He sold his duplicate Pokmon cards at the age of 7,'' Diaz said, explaining that he had taken his son with him to a work convention in Atlanta, Ga. ``When we returned to Miami, he had a stack of checks.''

''He was getting ready to start selling comic books,'' he said.

Diaz Jr. was a member of the lacrosse team and DECA, a nationwide business and marketing club for high school and college students.

He also liked to swim, ride horses and play street hockey. He was born at Baptist Hospital and grew up in Pinecrest.

In addition to his father, Diaz Jr. is survived by his mother, Lizette, and sister Katrina.

The viewing will be at 5 p.m. today at the Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Funeral Home, 8200 SW 40th St.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Park Cemetery, 3344 SW
