This is not a trend. This is not my attempt at originality. This is the way i feel and the life i choose to live. this was also taken from UK sources, none the less i would love to share it with you. Here are a few reasons behind the vegetarian lifestyle i have chosen.. but FIRST, i am aware that people have been killing animals since the begininng of time, theres nothing wrong with that.. i DO however feel that it goes overboard, now its not just killing animals, its beating them, torturing them, and treating them terribly in the process. - Love of animals. - Stance against Factory Farming - 20 vegetarians can live off the land required by one meat eater - Conservation of Fossil fuel. It takes 78 calories of fossil fuel to produce 1 calorie of beef protein; 35 calories for 1 calorie of pork; 22 calories for 1 of poultry; but just 1 calorie of fossil fuel for 1 calorie of soybeans. - Water Conservation. It takes 3 to 15 times as much water to produce animal protein as it does plant protein - Help end world hunger: every day forty thousand children on this planet needlessly starve to death. According to the Department of Agriculture statistics, one acre of land can grow 20,000 pounds of potatoes. That same acre of land, when used to grow cattlefeed, can produce less than 165 pounds of edible cow flesh. - Become a more peaceful person: when we consume animal flesh products we are necessarily at odds with nature and our fellow living beings. Consumption of flesh foods has been scientifically linked with violent and aggressive behavior. -Vegetarians live longer, healthier lives. That's a fact - SO SAD---> Baby chicks are sorted male from female at chicken farms. The male chicks are casually thrown in a sack on top of each other and suffocated because they cannot become layers or meat providers - Pigs are equal in intelligence to chimps and higher than dogs. No wonder they scream and fight when dragged into the slaughterhouse. - Workers in slaughterhouses killing pigs often wear ear protection against the screams of the terrified animals. Slaughter houses operate because we expect meat on the table. - Chickens are crammed into battery cages with upto 3 other birds, they are unable to even spread their wings & many can not even stand up - AWHHH :( ---> Chicks are debeaked without anaesthetic to prevent them injuring each other in the unnaturally confined conditions they are kept in - this is equivalent to having your fingernails pulled out without anaesthetic - 95% of poultry suffer injuries before being killed & 30% suffer broken bones - In the UK animals are killed by first being stunned with electricity or a captive bolt gun (ie. a bolt is fired into their heads) before having their throats slit & being plunged into boiling water - all this happens on a production line with the animals being hung upside down from a moving conveyor belt - this is factory farming - 4000 animals die spurting their blood out every minute in a British slaughterhouse - Calf leather comes from animals killed at just 2 weeks old -Animals on factory farms do not see the sun or get a breath of fresh air until they are prodded and crammed onto trucks for a nightmarish ride to the slaughterhouse, often through weather extremes and always without food or water. Many die during transport, and others are too sick or weak to walk off the truck after they reach the slaughterhouse. The animals who survive this hellish ordeal are hung upside-down and their throats are slit, often while they're completely conscious. Many are still alive while they are skinned, hacked into pieces, or scalded in the defeathering tanks. Learn more about the factory-farming industry. By switching to a vegetarian diet, you can save more than 100 animals a year from this misery. -SO an investigator from Peta went to a pig farm in Iowa, this is what he found, its shocking; “The video, shot by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, shows farm workers hitting sows with metal rods, slamming piglets on a concrete floor and bragging about jamming rods into sows' hindquarters.... “At one point in the video, workers are shown slamming piglets on the ground, a practice designed to instantly kill those baby pigs that aren't healthy enough. But on the video, the piglets are not killed instantly, and in a bloodied pile, some piglets can be seen wiggling vainly. The video also shows piglets being castrated, and having their tails cut off, without anesthesia.'' Approximately 200,000 pigs arrive dead at U.S. slaughter plants each year; many of these deaths are caused by a lack of ventilation on trucks in hot weather 8 billion animals (excluding fish and seafood) are slaughtered for food: 38 million cows and calves, 95 million hogs, 5 million sheep and goats, 278 million turkeys, 20 million ducks, and over 7 billion chickens So, everytime all my friends are out eating that big juicy burger i just think of the poor helpless animal that died, for 5 minutes of my satisfation, that's just gunna make you fat anyways! haha, hopefully this didnt offend anyone. if it opened your eyes even a little tiny bit, im glad i could do that for you. thanks for reading.
