I grew up in the midwest - originally from Ohio, went to college in Indiana, and moved to Chicago, IL for work. Then my buddy Bobby, who I played in a band with at school, started a new band in Oregon. Now I've been living in Portland for about 5 months, and absolutely love it out here. The music is fun, the guys in this band have become my best friends, and the scene out here is so relaxed and music-friendly. Lovin' it. Things are really starting to pick up for the band - we're headed to Chicago to record our first album, and we've got a spring tour almost booked. The summer will be awesome, playing out all the time, writing more songs, and promoting around town. Please check out my band, Delaney, if you're in the mood for fun new rock tunes and want to jump on board the fun ride that this band is just beginining!

Studio 2

It's day 8, or maybe 9, in the studio. It's all starting to blend together, but it's all been a lot of fun. We're in the middle of tracking guitars, and Lee is playing some rhythm parts on Books & Broken Windows. This tune got a lot of good feedback from my friends when it was just a demo - so I can't wait for everyone to hear the studio version because this is sounding amazing. Manny knows his stuff when it comes to guitar tones and effects, and we're adding some really cool atmospheric layers into this chorus. Overall, we're probably a little behind schedule for the instrumental parts, but a few all-nighters and we'll be back on track.

Studio

Well, it's Day 4 here at the IV Lab in Chicago. We're all sitting around the mixing booth editing drum tracks, so I figured a little recap of our first week would be appropriate.
We flew into town last Wednesday, had an awesome time playing at Wise Fools Pub on Friday night, and hung out with some good friends here in town over the weekend. There may be a few incriminating photographs of the events surfacing on our website soon... but I'll just say for now that there may have been a few drinks consumed and a few high fives given in public places. Good times and high fives go hand in hand, after all.
So Monday morning it was time to get to work. Manny Sanchez, our producer/engineer/hostel manager for the session, took most of the morning to get the drums and mikes set up perfectly. Then Brendan Collins, studio drummer extraordinaire, layed down the backbone of the songs over then next 2.5 days. That brings us up to the present moment, it's Thursday afternoon and we're taking most of the day to make sure all of those slammin' drum tracks are perfect so we can record bass tracks and then layer in all of the other instruments and finish it all off with vocals. Well I'm getting excited just thinking about how fun the next couple of weeks are gonna be... but so far we've got some great sounding percussion!
Talk to you soon!
Mike

Recording

So we're heading to Chicago one week from tomorrow. For the past 6 months Lee, Bobby and I have been writing songs, re-writing songs, adding and removing sections and layers, recording demos and scrapping demos. In total, I think we wrote almost 30 songs, recorded about 20 demos, and have now picked 12 tunes to go on our first album. Arcade Song, San Fernando and Lyle are making the move from our EP to the album, with a few minor changes here and there to bring 'em up to speed with the newer tunes we've been writing. The Stuff, Stuck On Me & Books are 3 of the newer songs, and then the last few to make the cut are gonna be surprises. Can't wait to head to the midwest and get to work! Hopefully if you're reading this, you're also anxious to hear Delaney's debut - should be ready for your listening pleasure by April.

Portland

People told me that I'd be depressed moving out to the NW region of this great country. Rain, overcast skies for months, etc etc. Whatever, this place is gorgeous, the weather has been awesome, and meanwhile there's 3 feet of snow on the ground back home! My friends are digging their cars out of snowdrifts to go to work, while I'm out running or playing basketball in shorts before band rehearsal. Depressed? Well, that's unavoidable sometimes. But on average, Portland has been very good to me so far.
