History of Treadmills

The treadmills have an interesting history. It came into being as working machines that would be used by animals and humans before the invention of powered machines. In the later times it was used as a process of punishment for those who have been sentenced with hard labour. The modern day treadmills are though used completely for the exercise purposes and give the benefit of walking, running, jogging or climbing. A wide conveyer belt moves with the help of an electronic motor and one has to constantly walk, run or jog on it for a definite time period. The time and speed can be set. Invention of exercise treadmills

The exercise treadmill was first invented by Dr. Robert Bruce and Wayne Quinton and was primarily used for the diagnosis of lung and heart disease. And then the research work of Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper on aerobics exercise that was published in the year 1968, proposed medical grounds for the commercialization of the treadmills as an exercise equipment.
