Before You Put Out My Eyes
by leper
I searched for you forever
fell into a slough of despond
begging, grace my sight
before you put out my eyes,
so that burned on eternal darkness
I'll remember your light.
what words did you create in your mind,
condemning them to death
before they reached my ears,
with a slow sad smile
born of too many yesterdays,
and lost tomorrows
gathered a cloak of fog
stirred by the breeze it shifted.
thought I saw inside
no, you had much too much to hide.
did you await some sort of scorn
as the ignorant scorns one who knows too well?
your vision swirled as gallows formed
gallows asked if I was worthy to judge...
downcast eyes have seen too many sights
eyes you can climb inside
and see for miles
but every sight is riddles now
my sphinx asks for interepretations
I don't know, I have to leave now...
before I fade away, I need to touch
what's left steeped in reality.
you've stolen all my strongholds
catpured all my pride
left me here to wonder
if I've got nothing left inside.
hidden knowing reason,
spoke in perfect rhyme,
wound a clock and captured
all the fragments of lost time.
