Earlier this year (2006) I was introduced to a new kind of music. Some call it CCM or Christian Rock. I just call it "a better choice". After too many years (20-30) of listening to what radio (an now TV) told us to listen to, I've found that there is a better choice. In keeping with "in all that you do, do to the glory of God", I relized my music choices were not up to that challege, so I did a 180 and headed down a new path. To all my fellow head bangers out there, yes, you too can still bang your head (it even says so on Skillet's new album that I my lovely wife got me for Christmas). If you don't believe me, check-out some of my favortie artists, won't cost you a cent and you might just be surprised what you find out there if you just open your eyes (and ears). If you let it, this music will change your life for the better and forever. What do you have to loose?
Recently I have started my own lawn and garden service in hopes of doing it full time when I retire from the navy next year. What is great about this line of work is I can listen to my music all day long (have one of those new fancy phones that play MP3s but will pause for incoming business call, how cool!!!). Thanks to the guys at HRCMU Radio (http://www.hrcmu.com/radio), I have plenty of new music to keep my mower running. They produce a monthly pod cast that is about an hour long (this month's was longer, making up for the Summer Vacation), which are perfect for listening too when you have larg lawn to tackle.
So, if you need some fresh music, check out HRCMU Radio and if you need some fresh landscaping or lawn care, contact me. Free HRCMU Radio podcast CD with each new 1 year lawn contract signed.
OK, some might get upset, but it is true, God loves rock-n-roll. Why? First, if you know anything about God, you do know that he created everything, if you don't, please read the first chapter of Genesis (the book in the bible not the Rock Trio who hit it big in the 80's). Verse 31 pretty much sums it up "God saw all that he had made, at it was very good". Ok, so he didn't make an electric guitar that first week, but he did plant the trees, which eventually get turned into guitars and othe stringed instruments and drum sticks. Which leads me to this verse in the book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 38:20 (NIV) The LORD will save me, and we will sing with stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the temple of the LORD.
I don't know about you, but singing with stringed instruments sure songs like a rock concert to me.
Still not sold, 7 times in the book of Psalms (which is a bunch of songs, by the way), the phrase "stringed instruments" is uses. Don't belive me, search the NIV online at http://www.ibs.org/niv/index.php, I'll wait for you....
Finally, have you seen a picture of Jesus, the Son of God? Rock Star?
So, to all you who grew up being told that rock-n-roll will rot your mind and ruin you forever, there is hope, you just have to make the right choice in your music selection (and ignore the doom sayers). You can stick with the old standards (I won't list names, you know who they are) and the new junk rock or check-out the great music that Christians are producing today. I guarantee you will find something that fits you personal music taste. Start with some from my favorite artists list, but don't stop there, I'm by no means an expert and there is so much to discover.
I hope you all have a blessed Christmas!!!
