“Tammy!” Mark called. Her eyes snapped open, she saw he older brother in her doorway, surprisingly, he was dressed, and ready. His black hair still bushy though. “What is it now? I thought summer was for sleeping in!” “Awww! Don’t be like that Tammy! I’m going into town, and I want you to come with me!” “Why??” she asked suspicious. “Because,” he leaned forward “you’re the one who wants a puppy.” Her eyes widened in surprise, pure joy sparkled within them. “A puppy?! Mark! How on Earth did you convince mom and dad??” He grinned, “ I have my ways, but you owe me one!” “Sure, whatever. Now leave! So I can get ready!” He stuck out his tough and left. On his way down the hall, Mark ran into his father. “Morning dad!” He said cheerfully. Instead of a greeting back, his father grabbed his arm and pulled him aside. “ We have to tell her today,” he whispered glancing at Tammy’s door. “Every time this happens, were all in danger!” Mark gulped. “It happened again, didn’t it?” His father glanced at the TV. Mark looked and saw they were discussing a mystery murder. Two holes on the victim’s neck, no blood left, and no evidence. Non at all. “But, if we tell her, what good will that do?” Mark said, trying to be brave “She couldn’t handle the last thing we told her! How could-” He cut him off “Listen boy! If the towns’ people find out, they will KILL her! Do you understand?” Mark glared at his father while an old memory popped back into his head. “NO!” Tammy screamed. “Tammy! Please calm down!” Mark jumped up and hugged his sister. She shook him off. “I wont believe you! I’m not an orphan!!” she shrieked. “No no! You’re not anymore!” He assured her. “I WAS NEVER AN ORPHAN!” she snapped. Tammy came home with bloody knees. The boys who bullied her were even more harsh that usual. Mark pushed the memory back before he could think of anymore. “I’ll be outside.” He whispered. He knew fresh air would help him think strait. He sat down in one of their faded red porch chairs and closed his eyes. “Ready!” Tammy called. Mark looked up; Tammy’s light brown knee long hair was tied back with her favorite ribbon. “Ok, lets go then” Mark replied. They walked over to their dark green mini van, and drove down the dusty unpaved road.
