Is it me, or has music become too strait-laced? You look back at the 60's and 70's, and you realize that those artists could do whatever the hell they wanted onstage or with their music. Now we have coreographed shows that don't differ from one venue to the next, lines re-used from city to city. Isn't music, and life even, determined how you feel in that moment? I mean, an artist could be having a really sh*tty day and then they go up and sing a song about how they are so happy with life. Really, the 90's were the last of true music.
Sure, there are some really good bands out there now days, but most people haven't even heard of them. The overplaying of mediocre music on top-40 stations has brainwashed an entire generation of listeners. You can't hear what you want. There are no truely angry songs anymore, they died when the pop-era arrived.
It makes you ask, what is music? A collection of sounds pleasing to the ear? Self expression? A way to make money? What happened to music for the shear joy of it? We all grow up with a love of music, however your social situation seems to define what kind of music you love. Why aren't we free to step ouside the boundries of our cliche, pre-determined likings and listen to what makes us feel good? If I want to listen to an angry rock song at a school dance, so be it. Don't refuse to play it because "you can't dance to it". Society is too coreographed.
