Hey all. I'm a session musician and producer out of Providence (much, much gayer than P-town). I record and produce material for myself and for other artists in my studio, which is an empty warehouse. I'm originally from C. Kilkenny, Ireland, but I currently live in downtown Providence with my girlfriend Molly and newborn son Willow. Even though my first love will always be music, I graduated from University of Rhode Island with a joint BS in Mathematics and Philosophy and am working towards an MS in Applied Mathematical Sciences. My studio work helps fund my education...poorly. Besides my studio I work as a substitute teacher at local high schools. I'm a multi-instrumentalist but I enjoy drums and piano above everything else. Some things I have also been known to play are the trumpet, marimba, and clarinet for my school jazz band, as well as the bouzouki, piccolo, pan flute, and bagpipes on certain occasions...usually for family gatherings. I used to be in a band called Pythagorhythm but in late 2005 I started my own project called Spherix. (www.purevolume.com/spherix) My musical tastes span from Mussorgsky to Elmore James to Pink Floyd to Jurassic 5 to Pearl Jam to Lords of Acid to Chick Corea. So I like pretty much everything, but my influences are mainly jazz and psychedelic artists such as Dave Weckl, Al Di Meola, Phil Lesh, Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, and Radiohead.
Hey guys. Just thought I'd let you know that all of the final mixing is done, and I am now going on an indefinite hiatus. I'm punching out for now and taking some proper time off. With the holiday season coming up I will be on break from classes (teaching and learning) and have time to sit back and hang out with Molly and Willow. I'll probably be putting up some unheard songs these next few weeks so be sure to visit and give them a listen.
Happy holidays,
- JR
Having a kid can completely blow you away. It makes you totally reevaluate your life. Stuff that you did before that seemed right suddenly doesn't seem right anymore, and stuff that seemed so important before suddenly doesn't mean anything now that you have another life that has been created from your own. To have this piece of you, this miniature version of you looking up at you with eyes completely oblivious to everything that you've already experienced...knowing that you are holding something that has never done anything wrong to anybody and that you are part of it...it's enough to completely change you.
Holy shit, I have a son. Welcome to the world, little guy.
